Does it always take twice as long and twice as much?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BaBa, Apr 26, 2013.

  1. This is the real question of the day

My wife asked how long it would take me to finish the 53. I replied I wont finish it. another time asked how much I thought I would spend, again my response was right on, about twice what you will let me spend:eek::eek:

sometimes you get lucky and have a great wife who would rather hear the truth:)

The first couple you do always take several times as much time and at least twice the money. It's still the cheapest engineering education you can get.

Mine was under budget and on time.
    Many times. Next time too.
I'll actually get to drive it, maybe next time, or the time after that.

It did at first, but then 50 years later after many many builds you finally get a handle on a proper estimate of your capabilities and as long as you don't have to count on to much outside help you can stay close to budget and time. Just learn to be realistic! BUCKD

  7. You cant build Nice Hot Rods for 10 grand. Dont feel bad. I build rough hot rods for 13+. Anydody who says different either has plenty of parts in advance or cant count. I keep Excel charts and do all the work myself. 10 grand goes fast. Enjoy and dont beat yourself up.

I'm doing a steering box change on an OT car...Got a whole "kit"..Instructions said column needed to be trimed and steering shaft compressed about 1/2"...Now that would take "X" amount of time..But because in reality its more like 2-1/2" shorter the time just went from "X" to who knows wheres.....And so it goes..

Exactly, then no problem! I just enjoy every day working on my current project and don't keep the receipts.

So, that's what they call it (I've always wondered)! If that's the case, then I'm hysterically brain challenged!

.....well at least until you visit your local DMV for your initial registration for all the new builds out there....

But not keeping track is a very good idea, and only two dates count, the day you started and the day it hits the pavement.

YUP to answer your original question, consider yourself fortunate if its only X2.

:)I used to buy totals and rebuild them ,I could never take too long to get them on the street , I did have a few that were never completed ,but the were drivable , One LTD comes to mind, After basic repair, it had a red door and a white hood and a blue right front fender. It was a grocery getter for about a year, One day I noticed the rear bumper was loose ,further checking ,I realized the back part of the frame was rotted away .So I stripped every single thing of any worth off it to use on another , and carefully drove it to the crusher. That one I obtained for next to nothing ,belonged to a school teacher that I went 12 years ,1st to 12th grade ,was married to a firefighter captain. Got t-boned. Both are passed away now. That's just one story .I have many.:eek::D
