It could be the angle but it looks like the whole dash is leaning down too much. Have you tried to lean it up so the top is more flat? I know the gauge cluster will be more in the way then but would correct the wings a bit.

  2. When I took that shot the dash was just held in with vice grips. It's in place now, but the wings will still lean a fair bit. The face of the dash is 90° perpendicular to the floor, so I don't know if the face leaned back in the Edsel or the wings leaned down. I'll get more pics this weekend.

Big A How about keeping just the top part of the roll. Slice and dice the wing and remove the lower part ,then maybe the crank will fit? Ralphie

Looking back at the picture if just the top was used it might be able to be rotated up to a more horizontal position to match the door trim [or blend into it] Ralphie

  6. I love that dash, I gotta grow a pair and replace my bland-ass dash with something more interesting. about how hard is it to find a edsel dash like this one?

  7. I'm happy with the position of mine so far, I'll get the rest figured out as I go along. Mounting it flat like the stock Edsel position would be tough. The peak in the centre of the windshield is higher than the side window openings.

    Jerseymike's lean...

flamin' ace, take some measurements and keep your eyes on the classifieds for someone parting out an interesting car. They don't come up often. After I bought the Edsel dash I missed an Olds dash like jerseymike's (kicked myself for that) and a '59 Impala dash. Should've bought them both, but don't have the budget to stockpile stuff like that.

I don't think you need to be handcuffed by the wings personally. You can slice and dice those to work with your door/door panel. Considering what you did with the headlights and getting the dash to fit the column properly it would be a walk in the park.

Kick ass build there, you must be itchin to get on the road. Later.

  10. Nice work, I always like watching these dash swaps. I cant wait to get stuck into one myself, I should probably start building a custom first though I guess!

I guess you've fitted the front seat at some stage during the swap? How does the dash look and feel from the drivers seat? That's the most important test.

  11. another question, how do you get all your cables and stuff hooked up after the swap? I know the electrical cant be too complex, but how do you get the speedo cable and such hooked up?

  12. that dash is killer looking. I put a 67 galaxy dash in my 56 f100, it really makes it your own no one else has one like it.

you could use a switch like this and keep the stock looking crank

Big A , harley jim may have the answer, you could put that switch just about anywhere on the door and still look stock. Ralphie

  14. I dunno so much about this, seems to cheesy and 90's to me. I mean I hate electrical switches in old cars just a much as I hate window cranks period, but id have to go with cranks, just to keep it traditional

but opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, and they all stink. So you do whatever the fuck you feel fit. its your ride.

you can take the end off of the cable from the doner dash and swedge it onto the cable in your project vehicle. you may have to adjust it to get the correct amount of drive cable length exposed. sometimes you can luck out and the cables have the same connector already.

  18. yeah I figure if I get a dash from the same make around the same time period the connector will be the same.

  25. You boys are makin' me blush. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

I was down with the flu for awhile so nothing new to report. And I'm going away for a bit so no more updates until my lawyer gets the charges dropped.

    :D

(I'm actually just going to find some sun and get away from winter. Won't be back in the garage for a couple of weeks. I may go into HAMB withdrawal )

  28. Pretty much. 10" of fresh snow in the last couple of days, below 0°F in the garage. Haven't touched the car in 7 or 8 weeks. Brrr.
