Under the hood the battery is right by the starter on the frame . The heater is above it the starter is right there also ,

Could be as simple as a valve cover leak or the carbs flooded over . I lost rack of how many times I have had the manifold covered in fuel on mine form a bad needle valve or some thing else . I keep a fire extinguisher on the front kick panel.

  4. if I remember right there is a pretty large wire running up the front of the fender . if the wire is not tucked up along the edge of the fender there is a risk of the hood hinge cutting it. looks to be right in that area.

  5. It’s not a race car and the brackets are mounted. A loose extinguisher is the least of my safety concerns when driving that old car

A flathead or a slant six would be cool but you’d have to hire a body guard ,I would prefer a 283 built to the hilt

  9. They were in those style mounts! They are junk! Personally I would be very concerned by getting hit partiality in the head or chest with something that weighs 5 LBS when is come lose in a crash!

I followed @Moriarity ’s lead and did a Google search. Stories on Facebook and Yahoo…..only.
No other pictures other than this picture
Other than STOP on the stop sign, no other writing readable.
The burn lines on the fender, both in front and in back of the wheel well , are just about at hubcap level. Based on the marks, the tire would have been 6 to 8 inches inside the fire.

I still think it is AI. I would change my mind in a minute if there was another view.

  14. Lol the seat belts are bolted to fiberglas( in effect), non collapsable steering column , convertible, flimsy windshield frame with 1/4” bolts holding it to fiberglas so zero protection above the dashboard it’s a death trap! :D

20210608_122632.jpg 20210608_122635.jpg 20210610_104632.jpg Cars like that are not that uncommon in the corvette restoration world.. that is what we do for a living.Customer s 57 fuelie was hit on the pass side and spun into a light pole crushing the pass door, door jam and drivers side rear 1/4.The old fiberglass was shattered and not repairable so the hardest part was finding a donor car that was missing the front clip.I'll include a few pictures for the pictures or it did not happen crowd 20210608_122632.jpg 20210608_122632.jpg 20210608_122635.jpg 20210610_104632.jpg 20210610_104632.jpg and just say that the insurance company WOULD NOT total it,yes it seemed very expensive to look at but in the end I'd invite anyone to inspect it so please save the negative stuff for someone that has not done this. The car has passed a state inspection, the owner and insurance company could not be happier and yes we did not loose money on it,every part is original to 56/57 and we came in under the estimate even with a complete strip and repaint. Not for the faint of heart but very doable .

I like Corvettes. They are special cars. Every one pictured deserves a better fate.

Thanks for the photos of the save you are working on. The car looks to have been a nice car before the crash, now it is having a good half of it replaced. At some time everyone involved must have talked about restoring to "Before hit" or taking it a few rungs up the ladder in overall finish. How did that work out?

My guess?...... It's real.......... and I am in an entirely different country....;)
