I've got a model A roadster and I'm gonna run Pie Crust Cheaters on the rear. Going for an early sixties hot rod vibe. I've found some vintage 15X 8.5's rims with 1.5" backspacing. Too wide? Would a 7" be better? Please spill.
If they're the real deal, straight spoke TT's, they should look sweet... I'd think more of a mid- to late-60's thing though?
I wanted let the wheel dictate the tire size rather than vice versa, figuring the vintage wheel is harder to find than the tire. Does that make sense?
It really depends on the width of your rear (no pun intended) With such a shallow back spacing, I wouldn't want a really wide drum to drum measurement. You gotta measure the dimension from the drum face to the body, subtract the back space dimension and if you come up with more than 2"-3", it will probably look dumb.
i dont think so either & if they did those would be some DEEEEEP-ASSED dished wheels. put them on no matter what size. i dig the 60s.
Great info, everyone. The wheels I found, American Torq Thrusts, had markings on the back that read 15X8X1.5 They're not super deep dish so maybe that 1.5 is backspacing off the wheel's center. No worries. I'm gonna hold out for 7". Thanks all. '
All the Torq-Thrust I've seen had a 3 1/2" backspace, so I think the 1 1/2" means negative offset, it's the same thing.
