COE Does this work, 4.03 V6 & 700R My 39 Chev COE

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by oldschoolantiqueauto, Jan 6, 2013.

  1. Can I get some feedback on this running gear for my COE.
I have a GMC P30 dully ch***is with 1 ton full floater dully rear end with 3.54 gears.
    I am looking at a 1990 4.03 injected V6, & 700R trans.

This truck will be a daily driver, not for hauling heavy loads at all. My first concerns is to get the best fuel economy with this truck, & the smaller the motor the better. I don't have much room between frame rails. 26" over front axle tapers back to 28". My wheel base is only 107". She's a shorty.

I would really appreciate any knowlage any one might have of this drive train?
The price is right $250 for motor/trans & the shorter V6 will help keep the engine under the cab. What do you all think???

Oldschool, The v6 and ****** would be a good choice for your coe the 700r has a low 1st gear to get things rollin and the 3.54 rear with a 30" or so tall tire would add to the overdrive situation but she's not gonna pull anything but herself...but some block hugger headers on the rascal and proceed...sounds like like a nice package too me...Good Luck and share your progress!

  3. I have till Tuesday to decide? I also found an older Chevy 305 V8 motor. Same 700R & I'm wondering which will give me the best fuel millage? Gas millage is a big concern to me. I have had some feed back that the 4.3 V6 get's bad MPG?

  4. OK, I made a choice. I purchased the Chevy 305 V8 from one guy for $100 & a 700R ****** for $150 from another. I'm not certain I will actually use the motor, but I need something to set in the frame to get my measurements for room left over for my tilt cab sub-frame. I also got a nice set of headers with the motor. They look to be tight to the block, which I'm sure I will need?
We have snow on the ground again today, so in a few, I will have them both cleaned up & see what I have to work with.

Fantastic move to mock it up with a small block chevy. Your options down the road are endless.
