All states are enforcing proper seat belting, they are not going with, Oh it came that way from the factory any more. The word is hot rod by the way, we all own hot rods, please don't argue, we just do. I would say that soon everyone will have proper equipment.

  3. "all states" are not. They follow Federal Law which exempts older vehicles.

My ride isn't a street or hot rod. That said, no, I don't have shoulders.

  5. I won't argue the merits of seat belts,,and it is a good idea to have them,I don't have them in the truck or the sedan,,but I do have lap belts in the coupe and I have a seat of lap belts for the wagon when the interior is installed. HRP

I like the cars with no shoulder harness and a giant chrome bullet on the steering wheel. just got to wonder in a crash will you hit it with your chest or your face? how 'bout a good shot to the throat?

I'll have them eventually in my car.

Well the federal law is about to change if the insurance companies push their latest bill thru, so order your belts for January first.

The thoughts of my teeth hitting a non collapseable steering column isnt fun. Personally I think they are a good idea. I want to drive my rod till I'm an old geezer.

From the two crashes I have been in, all new builds get shoulder harnesses. I bought a set for my older build too.

I have them. It's my daily and my daughter rides with me. Belts in my F1

I would like to find some better looking belts to swap in. I just had to get them in to get the truck functional so I ended up buying modern belts with a big red plastic button.

With old style door latches I definitely want belts. I once saw a woman fall out of a car when a door flung open in a turn in an intersection, her body rolling across the pavement in front of oncoming cars, and it wasn't pretty.

I've been trying to decide between retractable shoulder belts or H-belts for the F1, need to make a decision this week. It's my daily, my grandsons won't be allowed to ride until it has belts, and I really wouldn't want to bounce my head or theirs off of anything in that interior. After looking at several sources, it seems like H-belts are both cheaper and easier to install than retractable shoulder belts? Any feedback from anyone living with H-belts on a daily basis?

  15. Have lap belts in my 54 and in also were in the T. My Tudor is getting 3 pts. Also we are designing some body support and a roll bar. Felt pretty naked in the T at 100mph on the top end.

I just went through a mandatory vehicle safety inspection for a title in Happy Illinois on a 38 Ford. Mandatory here, like a smart ass I quoted just like a feller here did "Federal law mandates the safety equipment required on old cars, it should be grandfathered in." The safety inspector turned to a real ugly tone of nasty prick and said directly in my face I quote " fuck you, get a 3 point harness, fail." When I pressed him further he said the crap about the insurance and scheduled my re inspection in 90 days, it will be snowing here then, WTF, so do you want to drive these things or argue with safety inspectors and sit at home watching Barney Miller reruns?

I have latch (not push button release) style Simpson belts in my Roadster. Four point for the passenger and five point for me, and both tied into the frame. I like them a lot. The only problem is it takes an extra minute or so to get buckled in and cinched down. It helps keep my head from hitting the roll bar on a big bump...

All vehicles that can be fitted with them should have them. It should be a priority in any build.

Roadsters present their own problems as it would be difficult to fit them.

Probably why most have lap belts.

Check your state inspection regulations and if he was wrong, get his name, report him to every agency you can think of... or maybe you should just bend over and put the belts in, put in a double pot master cylinder and a collapsible steering column, check your roof rollover strength, and go back there and kiss his ass.....

    http://www.dot.state.il.us/trafficsafety/beltlaw.html

Lists as an exception, A motor vehicle which is not required to be equipped with seat safety belts under federal law.

From Hagerty's website: Federal laws hold cars and trucks to the standards that were in effect at the time of their manufacture. Therefore, pre-1966 cars aren’t required by federal law to have seat belts. State laws do vary, however.

I'd double check that and report that inspector if he is in fact wrong. People in that position shouldn't be able to push their own ideas of what the law should be.

Kiss? huh! This is a lick state. They have the vehicle on a technicality, they are issuing a new title, technically, it's a 2010, so they can bury that boot way up there where it's hot and sticky. 90 days. Next test I'm duct taping my mouth shut and painting on a set of lips. This is a click it or ticket state. Lucky me, I asked a trooper, What if your car has no belts, Thats no excuse, the law is click it or ticket, you are supposed to be wearing a belt. O..K..aaa..y..

Three points on the coupe and pickup; lap belts in the roadster. After almost fifty years of wearing a seatbelt every time as a matter of procedure and habit, I feel naked in a car without one. Your opinions may vary, but laws of physics are pretty well established.

I wear lap belts in all my cars, (I don't have any modern vehicles) I like my butt to stay in the seat where it's supposed to be when cornering, etc. Always thought in a small accident I'd rather stay put, if I get upside down all bets are off anyway. Not putting a shoulder belt in any old cars though... unless it hid well-
