I did a search first to see if anything like this had been done already and didn't find anything. I know it's kinda goofy but does anyone else give their cars names? My wife named our 37 Pickup, the one in the avatar Penelope. When I brought it home with it's fenders and all still on it she said it just looked like a Penelope so it stuck. What do you guys call yours?

What is it with women naming cars?

No guy I've ever know had a name for his ride, but lots of women seem to.

Long ago when I first started my project, my wife started calling my car rusty - as in "are you going to work on Rusty tomorrow?"

On the positive side, I think it helped her bond with my pile of junk, which has been a benefit to me. She actually loves the thing, buys parts for it and refuses to ever let me sell it.

So if she wants to call it Rusty, so be it.

you should never tell anyone the name of the other woman (love) in your life.

  19. I haven't named any of my cars....I don't think I would give them women's names, it hasn't worked out to well for storms Like "Katerina" I think guys names would be better like BOB....So i Could tell the wife me Bob are going to get beer or me and Bob are going to the boobie bar.....maybe not that one or the next storm might me named after my wife......JUST My Thoughts!

cool topic....I have allways "named" all my cars ....rods or not...and always a females name...my daily driver..a '87 Saab 9000 turbo....is "The Old Girl"....I have had her longer than any other car....My Pickup..'63 JO Bedford...is "Margaret Belle"...there is a story behind that name.....and my soon to be started '28/29 Modified/RPU...will be "Charmaine"...a female of the same name gave me the runaround....and it is exactly that i have been doing collecting bits for her

in high school my buddy named his 78 Impala wagon "The Batmobile". you see, that was around the time the first Michael Keaton Batman movie came out. plus he was a little nuts. still, it was always fun to say "TO THE BATMOBILE!" whenever we went to go someplace :D. i'd realy like to own the real Batmobile from that movie. or a realy good clone of it. i'd drive that bitch EVERYWHERE!!!

OOOH, i'm sorry. i seem to have gone off on a tangent. my bad....

What???!!! Granted not everyone names their cars, but most *enthusiests* I know name them. My baja bug (the yellow one) is Baha-Barann (from the Beach Boys' "Barber-Anne") - Annie for short, the ZX I call Roxanne (cause of the "X" & the female voice that tells me "Fuel level is low." - among other things); the others don't have final names yet but I'm not driving them yet either.

"one piece at a time" like jcash.cause it seems like the tranzamission was a 53 and motor turned out to be a 73 and when we tried to bolt it up all the holes were gone... so we drilled it out so that it would fit and witha liddle bitta help from a A dapta kit we has that engine runnin just like a soooonnng.
sorry went on a jcash tangent

I don't have a "cutesy" name for my project.

I never really named any of my cars. They were always "The Thunderbird", or "The Lincoln", or "The Cougar", or "The Chevelle" or "The red one", The blue one", "The black one", etc- you get the picture...

Someone pegged my current project as this...(see picture) and it stuck. Now I use this term when I describe the car...I guess it's become it's own monicker.
