Well, we've been working all night long for days to try to get the 1954 Chrysler ready for the car show today. The first ever Bloomsburg Nationals put on by the the people who do Carlisles shows. Well, the interior is done (ok, done enough) and the car is rewired for 12 volts. The 440/727 and new front stub will wait until this winter. Went to fire it up and guess what. The starter decided to give it up. Try finding a starter for a '54 265 flathead six on a moments notice. Tried calling ever parts store, junkyard, friend, and friend-of-a-friend we could. Looks like we are going to have to leave the Chrysler at home and take the 1970 GTO instead. This sucks!

Reminds me of the year that my buddy, my wife and I worked on my '52 Chevy to get it ready for the Woodward Dream Cruise. Saturday and even into Sunday. They slaved. I was so proud of the two of them...helping me like that. We never make it. I was dissapointed, but it remains a fond memory that the three of us share and laugh about.

Don't be too upset. It wasn't meant to be. Take the Goat, and enjoy yourself.

If you can rebuild the starter so that it's dependable, fine. But if it's borderline or questionable, you'll be more upset if you get halfway there and it fails. Just a thought. Good luck.

I will, but can't have it done tonight. And honestly, since we aren't going to make the show, I'm about to pull it and put the 440 in it instead.

Thank you for the moral support, especially Rickbop. I am definately proud of how far we got on such a short time frame. Sorry everyone, I just needed to vent my disappointment.

Ya know Harv, I was gonna suggest that too. But I'm thinkin' fluid-drive auto in a '54 Chrysler. But Lars...if it does have a std shift, that's an option! Park on inclines...lol.

    Drats.

Some of the old automatics could be push started though. I push started my '53 Buick more than once...but ya gotta use another car...get 'er goin', and at about 35mph, she'd catch. Anybody know if you can do the same with a '54 Chrysler? Would be a sketchy solution though, and maybe not worth the trouble or risk.

Well....... if that would work. ...... my Dad is going to have his 450hp '69 Camaro Convert at the show. That would push it!
