I was at the upholstery shop today changing the routing of some speaker wires and noticed that the dog legs have a spot for courtesy lights that would illuminate that area with the door open. I had never noticed that before. It certainly makes sense to have lights there but my car had none and I don’t recall ever seeing anythIng about them. Does your 55/56 have any there?
none on mine and nothing listed in the shop manual. looks like only courtesy light identified in the manual is under the dash on the customlines.
Here is the location although I have since learned that they were only on Sunliners and Crown Vics. I don't think that they were ever installed on my Sunliner.
Guess you can't have a dome light in a convert. It would be neat to find some lights to go in there. Are you gonna have this beauty done for the Goodguys in 2 weeks, or am I going to have to wait until NSRA in what, April??
I've heard the formed section under the windshield on the A pillar refered to as a dogleg, but it's below what Joe was calling a dogleg. I think the description in more about a shape than location. Just my 2 c.
Yes, dog leg is just my description of that area, otherwise known as a knee knocker, or when you are working under the dash, a head knocker. lol. Rich, I doubt that it will be out of upholstery jail before the end of April. I have yet to drive it any further than up and down my block so some debugging will happen first. The lights will illuminate the entry/sill plate area when the door is open which I think is a great idea. If I can't find originals I will attempt to fab some myself.
I would have thought upholstery shops would be beggin' for work......apparently not, at least a good one. Is it in the Broken Arrow area?
It is a respected Tulsa shop. They did a convertible top for a friend and I was very impressed with their work. They were very helpful in helping me figure out how to section the backs of the Sebring seats I have used so those two things made me choose them. Another friend had them do a car and it took them six months but they did a superb job. So I knew it would not be quick. This seems to be the case with most known shops. They do many “small” jobs for cash flow I guess and that drags things out. My plan is to ask them why they function that way, AFTER they finish my Sunliner though. I like these guys so I am not mad, just curious. They have allowed me to do any thing I want to the car while there, even use their equipment. They have even allowed me to make some panels of my own. But I am so anxious to start driving it.
