Yeah bruce...my left hand smells like skunk now. Had I had gloves in the house, I woulda wore them...but of course I didn't. Well, they both still reak...so...I dunno weather to buy the GoJo or the M***engil....maybe both?
As for the peroxide/baking soda mix....thats what is recommended by my vet and Popular science. Didn't do much for my dogs though. Go figure.
THanks for ALL your help guys, I appreciate it [IMG]

My Rotts got sprayed once pretty good, killed the skunk even, the peroxide mixture does work if mixed right.

Story from my Grandfather: Several years ago, mebbe 1919, his dog got nailed by a skunk. A helpful friend suggested a quick dip in gasoline...after about .0002 seconds in a washtub full of gas, the dog exited and was seen going over the fence ten feet off the ground at a speed not attained by aircraft until many years later...dog smelled fine when he returned, but that was two weeks later, so not much was proved.

doggo sprayed by skunk + electric razor + tomato juice + baking soda + high voltage electric current + bathtub = no more worrying about bad smelling skunk dog [IMG]
Seriously some tomato juice and some baking soda outta do it. Then i like the idea of a nice shampoo for a good "smell me good coverup"

Tomato juice is ******** ..., but the baking soda might work! If not..., the above suggestion will definitly work [IMG]

My "Friggen dog got blasted, I tried every thing and couldn't get rid of the smell. He had to sleep in the garage for a week! [IMG]

That made my cars smell like "Skunk" and my dog smell like gasoline! (which is lots better than Skunk!)! As soon as the smell went away from him, he went right back there and got sprayed again!!! [IMG]

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Yeah--my old dog got nailed twice by the same skunk. The first time, he thought he was going to have a pleasant cat chase--the second time, he thought he was going to slay the evil cat who had used immoral Weapons of M*** Destruction. Two long, painful nights, one of them spent finding out that Quick Check's entire stock of tomato juice had no effect on skunk, the other wasting all the liquid soap in the house. Still, people let me alone at work for a long time...

I just talked to my friend who owns the Dog Grooming shop,

She says that she has some stuff called "Skunk Off", but that you can do as well at home with the water/peroxide/baking soda lather. She said to leave it on for 15-20 minutes and rinse it for at least five more. You will have to repeat it a few times in a severe case, and may have to re-do it over the next week or so as the dog gets wet and the smell comes back out of it's pores.

(She also says that the old powdered douche formula works GREAT, but that she doesn't think they sell it anymore!)

    Good luck!

Well, holding a dog in a bathtub for 15-20 minutes with gunk all over them, is not gonna happen in this here household! They won't have that.
I washed them both again just now....Nitro in GoJo (non pumice) and Macy in M***engil (fresh flower scent, hey! she's a girl, I couldn't resist!) They just took off again, mad at me...so we'll see how they smell when they get back. They both have skunk on their snouts, which ya kinda have to stay away from with all this ****...don't want it in their eyes and mouth.
Bleached the whole bathroom....least its better than skunk!
again, you guys rock! And I'm REALLY proud of all you o/t post nazi's...I know how hard it must have been for you to leave this alone :p
    Thanks guys [IMG]

    OK, one more tip.

If you want to keep your dog from shaking when getting a bath and covering you and your house with water/soap/gojo/tomato juice etc., do this:

Right when they first start to shake, just slap them on the top of their back just ahead of their hips. It kills their shake reflex and they stop.

You don't need to slap them hard, it's not a punishment thing, it just ruins the reflex.

Oh god Joe, that looks awful [IMG]
    Well.....
M***engil, followed by GOJO has my vote. The dogs are virtually skunk free...all but their dog tags (which I can't get the smell off of at ALL) and their faces (couldn't clean them as easily)....so they're back inside and happy about it [IMG]
    Thanks guys!
