Howdy, my name is Shea. I'm a young gun from central Jersey. New to the HAMB. I just got into doin my own pinstriping. After toying around a little I desided to take a test run on the trunk of the family car (57 Olds). Tell me what you all think. I'd like some feedback on this...=)

Good start. I see a praying mantis in the upper middle of your design. Pull any long line's? Color pic next? That name you took, Make's me think of one of the original blonde bombshell's: Jayne Mansfield...

No not pulling long lines yet. I've only used the brush about four times. Practice makes perfect. I'll get some color photos on here...the olds is white and red at the moment. My striping was white on red...

Great start! Practice and time is all you need that pretty much goes for anything you do in life. I gave up pinstriping at least 10 times when I first started because it wasn't perfect the first time. With every time I get out and do it I am able to pull the like a bit longer, straiter and a bit more even. Its been a while now and I still am learning. Check out the couple of pinstriping tec posts if ya ever are feeling stuck they get me moving when I need a boost. That and the friday art show.

Over the winter I'm gonna be doin a lot of work on the Olds. Plus practicing that pinstriping...by summer '05 I plan to team up with my cousin Jennifer (metalhotrodgirl) and pinstripe with her...look for us at local car shows next year...especially the hoedown.

If I may offer some critique of the striping ... (you did ask, and I'm a design teacher so I can't help myself) [IMG] ... it currently looks very angular and compact. It could benefit from some longer sleeker lines. Keep at it. It's all a matter of practice. Pulling those long lines is tricky.

  18. Welcome! Great start on the striping. It shows moxie.

Now, practice, practice, practice and hang around the Friday art show. Also do a search here for past posts on pinstriping. There's alot of interesting tips and how to's.

Ah ha ha ha! Kris, I was thinking that same thing!

As for benefitting from longer lines, I agree...but I am so digging the compact lines because it is different, and stands out in my mind. The second picture kind of reminds me of a spider.(In a good way). Keep it up, I'd like to see your art as it progresses (spell check someone?).

Welcome to the board. Good start on the pinstriping. I've finally gathered the materials together and I'm going to start on it as soon as I can get some time... probably this weekend.

You guys, better behave yourself... she's 16.

Kris, you still crack me up! [IMG]

Wow.. great work for your fourth try! [IMG] If you want a good way to practice, get a slab of glass out of a cheap picture frame and slap a grid on the back of it.. then just pinstripe the glass.. when you're done, you just take some steel wool and it comes right back off to try again. so here's the links

for some quick how to from the old hands..

a discussion group just for developing skills and chatting about the art form..

Keep working on it and post art (when you can) on the Friday art show!

Good start BB. As a few others have said, practise and more practise and be critical of your own work. I believe that is the secret to begin with. As well as being very passionate about your striping! Geoff aka Whodaky

I'm from Jackson, New Jersey. Sorry to hear about your little accident Caffeine. While my cousin and I were at Lead East we got a text message from Rat Rodder Steve about it. Hope your feeling better =/

  27. A little O/T.but not really-

I was at a local Hot Rod shop the other day, on my way home from work, and a younger dude in what I think was an old Chevy Astro Van pulls in next to me, and the sides have drawings of the old Mysterion, and Rat Fink, and other Roth originals...It said
Big Daddy Roth Jr" on it, too. I got out of my car, and told the kid "you got some mighty big shoes to fill" and he said "did you know Big Daddy?" and I told him I met him back in the 80's, but even if he was still alive, he would never remember me... The kid whips out a business card, and it's one of Big Daddy's sons...
