No doubt, you should be able to hear it at the tail pipe. But its an old trick I saw used 35 years ago by a real old time mechanic and it appeared to have worked when I saw it done. Bob
It's so simple guys, if the dollarbill gets ****ed back in the exhaust the car's telling you you need to put more carburators on as the engine wants more air and now tries to get it through the exhaust...
We used to do it years ago to check for leaky valves/stuck lifters. Don't work worth a damn now since most cars have crossover pipes in the exhaust system...exhuast will constantly pulse in this configuration.
I always thought that test ranked down there with a white tailpipe meaning a perfectly tuned engine! peace
I don't get the $1 bill past the gas filler tube fast enough to check to see if it would go up the pipe ! I goes up the gas filler tube damn fast , that's for sure ! Retro Jim
You guys crack me up. Some good humor here. Made me forget about some "head noise" for a while....keep it up!
Seen it done years ago, but in a different way. You start the car, then hold a dollar bill edge wise, with your index finger and thumb of both hands. If the dollar just ruffled in the exhaust stream everything was ok, if it snapped the end like a towel, then you knew you had a mis-fire. Kinda crazy when you can hear and feel a mis-fire to begin with.
That sounds like something we use to do after a few too many, then argue about it the rest of the night.
