Thread drift ought to be okay on this one. When I finally got a semi-smart phone is when I realized our language and culture are changing rapidly, mostly because of that technology.

I have been burnt at harbor freight, I purchased a 600 dollar sheet metal brake which broke the second time I used it, bought it on Saturday and broke it on Sunday. They have inexpensive tools and things that work fine but the big ticket tools are bought elsewhere.

I have never used CCP nor Howells sheet metal but I have been using Speedway for more than 50 years and really never had any problems, sooner or later ir you buy parts on line there is going to be a snag, how I deal with the customer service dictates my future business. HRP

I AGREE 100%. I bought a rear sway bar for a vintage Corvette.... It broke 3 weeks after install, total garbage !!!! They gave me a store credit upon return of borken parts, but it was a hassle. Everything they sell is made in CHINA and can be found elsewhere for less. Like the front A arms they sell

There's nothing wrong with Chinese metallurgy when products are ordered to a quality standard, not a price point. That's a problem that lies with your vendor. Given the work ethic of many American employees, I am not sure you can count on them, either. Better buy old stuff from when people took pride in their work.

X2. Bad, bad experience with McLeod and their infernal muscle car 5sp box which was allegedly US-made. There has been a general drop in standards ever since the powers-that-be decided it's a good idea to transfer the West's industrial base to China, India and others of that ilk.

I hope this is true but it would take years to build factories and parts for our old cars might never be made here again

  11. I am another one that will never deal with them again. I ordered a brake kit and they sent two mounts for the same side instead of one left, one right. They would not send a replacement unless I paid for another mount and would not refund my c/c until I sent back the other one at my cost.

could you even imagine the amount of money a company would lose if they did this at any scale?
i'm not defending or trashing the company, but it's common sense to do what they requested.
REI, Patagonia, or any other number of companies use the same policy.
some of the butt-hurt responses in this thread make me happy* i'm retired.

Put their spindles and drilled/slotted disc brake kit on the front of my 55. Good quality parts and they bolted right on, as promised. Am I the rule or the exception? I can't say, but I ain't mad at what I bought from them. I have their front sway bar kit waiting to go on to the same car as well.

Maybe I'm just an a$$, but it seems to me there are very few details in Mr. El*CATRIN's initial and followup posts. I suggest there's a BUNCH of info missing.
Like, what, precisely "geabox" is he talking about? Steering, transmission, transfer case, speedo pinion gear?
When, exactly, did he buy it? How long was the warranty and/or return policy for? Did it get used at all before he determined it was defective? When, exactly, did he attempt to make a claim?

Many questions arise, but very few answers.

"They were a single source for a steering box and pitman arm I needed."

    &, maybe not...
I'll suggest you contact Lares Corp, in Cambridge Minn. They rebuild - uhm, remanufacture; steering gear & such. Last I heard, they still do top-notch-quality work. Probably don't reman *everything*, but sure do a lot. Don't know iffen they'd do a one-off-build for you (- you could always ask), as cores are needed, + of course, the volume/demand for "mass"-remanufacturing on a mini-assembly-line. IIRC, the Owner/pres name is Paul. They'd be my 1st stop iffen I needed a redone box.
    HTH.

If this reply is not HAMB friendly please delete it.

I’m not defending CPP, I have not used any of their parts and have heard the stories about how bad or good they are but last night I watched a video from Brian Brennen discussing the 2025 AMBR and heard something that reminded me of this thread. Brian asked Adam (main fabricator on this project) about the steering box, Adam replied it came from CPP.

From your hot rod AI friends: A gearbox, also known as a transmission or gear reducer in industrial contexts, is a mechanical device that plays a crucial role in transmitting and modifying power from a rotating source, such as an engine or motor, to another device or system :)

If this was directed at me, I spent 12 years in the UK, a transmission is referred to as gearbox there (kinda like hood=bonnet, trunk=boot etc. etc.)...
