Not entirely true. I think DJ shared a little of it with everyone who would listen, and a lot of it with a select few. I'll bet most of that knowledge is out there and he will definitely be thought of whenever it is applied.

Thoughts go out to friends and family alike. I never had the priviledge or honor of meeting him in person, but he was one of those guys on the HAMB I always wanted to meet.

We're a little bit lesser today because he is gone. He will be missed.

So sad to hear. Always had great words of knowledge for the Flatheads. I have a someday project that I'll use a flathead. It's hard to imagine not having him point you in the right direction. You knew you were in good hands when he chimed in on your question(s). God speed and bless my friend!

  17. Oh no....just so suddenly, its so hard to believe.

I can't even tell you how many times Don and I talked blown flatheads and combos and he was there to offer advice from hard earned experience. I will miss our little "discussions".

My sincerest condolences to his wife and family.....may the man up top look after them during this challenging time and may they know he is in a better place.

    God speed Flatdog !!

Damn.........this is sad news to hear........when we met him at the salt a couple of years back he was grinning from "sunburndt ear to ear" chatting about the flatheads that were running on the salt and talking about how great that it was to be at Bonneville and he flew in from back east to the salt and he spoke highly of his son and the school that he was going to in the fall that year. Very proud pops.

God speed Flatdog........and give ole' Henry Ford a few tips in the big sky above.

I think the last thing any one of us needs to hear is that a valued one of our own is gone ...

He will be missed, and thoughts & prayers are with the family.

    Donald "DJ" Jackowski

    56, loved to share knowledge

ROCKAWAY TWP. -- Donald "DJ" Jackowski died Monday, April 14, 2008, at St. Clare's Hospital/Denville. He was 56.

He was born in Dover, grew up in Whippany, and Denville, and was a resident of Rockaway Township since 1989. He was a graduate of Whippany Park High School, class of 1970.

He was the co-owner and operator of Denville Transmission since founding it in 1981, and an expert diagnostician of mechanical problems.

He was a member of the Rockaway Township Sportsmen, and he enjoyed building and hunting with Revolutionary-era rifles. He was a nationally renowned expert specialist in building Ford Flathead engines for drag racing; two of his cars are among the quickest in the world for the type of engine. He also enjoyed classic cars and motorcycles, including his 1957 Harley-Davidson and red 1934 Ford Coupe commonly seen around town.

He loved to share his knowledge of cars and engines through the Internet and on the phone, always willing to talk out a problem with anyone in need. He loved learning anything and everything, reading as much as he possibly could. He was a collector of World War II memorabilia, as well as general Americana. He never met a tool that he didn't like.

His brother, Ted Jackowski, predeceased him in 1985.

His wife, Karen Comiskey Jackowski of Rockaway Township; his children, April Santangelo and her husband, John of West Milford, Zachary Jackowski of Cambridge, Mass., and Cory Anne Jackowski of Rockaway Township; his grandchildren, Jake, Ashley, and Tyler; his father, Theodore Jackowski of Whippany; his sister, Karen Dobbins of Randolph; as well as his two loving dogs, Bean and Lucky, survive him.

Relatives and friends will be received on Friday April 18, from noon to 4 p.m. with a 4 p.m. service at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, N.J., www.normandean.com (please light a candle in his memory on Web site).

In lieu of flowers, donations to Denville P.A.L. Community Center, P.O. Box 457, Denville, N.J. 07834 would be appreciated.

Note the Normandean website...you can leave a memorial message there. Bruce

Just want to let everyone know that your words meant quite a bit to DJ's family and friends. Bruce's words in particular were used in particular by the reverend during the service as a testement to DJ's character.
