On Thursday after work Megan drove up from Ohio and met me at my place and we packed up Big Olds for our weekends adventure to the Rust Revival.

Not everything fit in the trunk……yes we’re only going for 3 night/days.

Megan’s candy of course rode in front. The girls got more of a sweet tooth then I.

My Mom always walks down and says goodbye, so we had her take this photo.

Headed west for a couple of hours, then south into Indiana…. first stop Indy.

After a couple hours we both put on hoodies cuz of the chill
[IMG]

Megan’s black Weezner one is like her security blanket now…..she doesn’t leave home without it.

About 8pm I say to Megan, “you getting hungry”, “yep” she says. We discuss where to stop for a quick bite and she mentions how she loves Sonic but they don’t have them in Ohio. I suggest hopping on her phone internet and seeing if there is one in Auburn (which we were coming up to) or Ft Wayne. She’s starts checking the internet and low and behold about one mile down the road is this HUGE billboard that states the next exit has a Sonic. How freaky is that. We of course head right there. A brand spankin’ new Sonic at the exact location we wanted.

So we order and our food comes and Megan says she’s going to eat it outside of the car…silly girl. Nice to say but I don’t think so. We ate on the new Fat Lucky interior….but Megan made sure she didn’t even get any crumbs on the seat.

Filled up with fuel and hot the road again. We had Bubba waiting on us. Megan did alittle surfing on the HAMB on the way. I make her read it out loud to me while we drive.

Once at GMCBubba’s place we pulled Big Olds right into his spot for the night.

Boy we killed a lot of bugs on the way
[IMG]

We were greeted warming by Bubba (Jim) and given a mini tour of where the bathrooms and light switches were with promises of the grand tour in the morning. It was very late when we pulled in so Bubba bid us goodnight and locked us in his shop.

We blew up an inflatable bed I’ve got, rolled out our sleeping bags, grabbed our pillows and hit the sack. Kinda hard to fall asleep though with so much cool stuff to look at. Kinda like sensory overload.
Is this not the coolest shop to sleep in??

FRIDAY MORNING
Well, GMCBubba said he’d be in around 7 and he wasn’t kidding. It seemed like I had just fallen asleep when he strolled into the shop. He brought us Long’s legendary doughnuts and McD’s egg mcmuffins, can’t beat breakfast in bed! (notice I’m not even awake yet!)

While Denise got ready Bubba and I had a chance to talk Model T’s. He gets them, there is not many people around that do. I really enjoyed talking with him about them and hearing his stories from the Newport Hill Climb. Once we were ready for the day he gave us a tour of Gasoline Alley. Like he told us, anything can be built in this strip of shops, they’ve got it covered!

We started out in his shop. He has lots of things in waiting, no different than any of us!

A little HA/GR for good measure!

His mobile repair shop he takes to the hill climb to service Model T’s
[IMG]

Big Olds looked right at home on the Alley!

Our next stop was Linder Tech, his injection business next door. At Linder Tech they rebuild injectors for virtually any car on the road. There are THOUSANDS of injectors there in various stages. Very interesting!

Some machinery they use to test flow
[IMG]

In addition to rebuilding injectors he also hosts seminars to teach fellow mechanics about injectors. This is the area they do that in. Also the lunch room from what I’m told
[IMG]

The land speed truck
[IMG]

A little hot sauce collection. We were even issued Linder Tech’s special blend!

The HAMB’s own RunaroundSue’s office
[IMG]

A ‘special’ piece of art created by VonDust…he’s so sweet [IMG]

A little modified flanked by Denise, Terry of the Indy Hi-winders, RunaroundSue, myself and GMCBubba [IMG]

And my favorite thing at Linder Tech, GMC Bubba’s desk! I LOVE these old mechanics cabinets! If anyone out there has one they are looking to get rid of PLEASE PM me! I’ve wanted one forever!

He even has an original brochure showing them!

For more info on Linder Tech visit their website here: http://www.lindertech.com/

Before hitting the road though we had leave our mark in Vargas bathroom…
[IMG]

Thanks a bunch to GMC Bubba and the rest of the folks at Linder Tech for all of the kind hospitality. Thanks to Susie for the goodnight cookies and beverages :D and to Terry for mopping the floor for us to sleep on! We both really enjoyed the time we spent there and are looking forward to the party this weekend during GG.

Group shot before blastoff
[IMG]

After all the excitement of the shops we hit the road heading west with Lindross and family in the lead in Valiente
[IMG]

Then Suave’sBuick and his lovely wife Lori
[IMG]

And we pulled up the rear in Big Olds. I like this position cuz I like to be able to watch all the cool cars in front and I like having the opportunity to speed up and take photos then fall back in line.

I can’t remember exact where we were but somewhere on highway this truck p***ed us and I know it’s kinda hard to read in the photo but in person it stood out plainly…..
“Be a flirt…lift your shirt…and make someone smile”

We both looked at each other and laughed and Megan said why not. I caught up to him, she flashed him, we got a loud blow of his horn, then fell back in line. I was too busy driving to snap a photo.

At the next gas stop we got slurpies to wash down our home made chocolate chip cookies we got from RunAroundSue.

Not a problem to eat off the carpet if one falls. Thanks so much for the treat bag Suzie. Everything was delicious, and yes we shared:D
[IMG]

A short time later we stopped for lunch.

As he’s trying to park Mike's roadster wouldn’t shift into reverse. After a quick glance it was determined that the nut holding the bolt that holds the shifter in place fell off but the bolt was still there. Just needed a nut. We decided to eat first then we’d get out the tools and fix.

After our meal, a local walked by our table and made a comment about the cars. After a short conversation I asked him if he had any nuts with him by chance. He said YES! and asked what size. The good Samaritan went to his truck and brought out a whole jar full. How lucky is that!

Didn’t know what size yet but we all headed outside and I got out my tool bag and floor jack. My regular travel floor jack got accidentally left at the Austin Speed Shop so I have this smaller one I’ve been hauling around. It worked in a pinch but really didn’t raise the roadster enough.

The guys could get their heads and arms underneath but that was about it. Unfortunately there wasn’t a nut that fit but the guys used some electrical tape and a couple of zip ties to hold the bolt on.

Before long we were back on the road…..but it wasn’t long before we were stopping for fuel again.

Then crossed the Illinois River
[IMG]

And shortly after that it started raining.:(

As we were driving the rain basicly went over us
[IMG]

But it does get hard to see cuz the windows get fogged up and the rain was coming down so hard that I couldn’t see the roadster in front of me. Not to worry cuz after awhile Lindross was feeling sorry for us and pulled over under the awing of a building.:D
[IMG]

They were open for business but didn’t mind us hanging there. They really had no reaction what so ever of us being there. Kinda strange that not one employee came out to look at the cars and only one guy came to the doorway and glanced out.

Hung out for awhile till the rain let up then headed out again. Drove thru many very small towns checking out the scenery when about 30 miles from Wayland we spotted a S****book store on the right. I slammed on the brakes and made the turn.

Both guys ahead of us knew Megan and I both s****book and they both also spotted the store. As I turned into the parking lot I look and could see both guys brake lights on and them starting to do u-turns. :D
[IMG]

Megan and I were both inside and shopping before the boys pulled in.

The owner of the store was VERY friendly and outgoing. She not only thanked us for stopping and shopping but was really into the cars and came out with her camera and took lots of photos.

So while we are making small talk about the cars she mentions the neighbors next door and said they have an Oldsmobile. I walk over to check it out
[IMG]

Shy me, :rolleyes:I knock on the door but no one answers. The S****book store owner then gets on the phone and calls them and they come out to meet us and show us their ‘49 Olds up close and personal.

The gentleman redid the car himself
[IMG]

My new best friend. She was really friendly and very outgoing
[IMG]

Mike pimpin’ the show.

We bid our farewells and made the last push to the motel.

Crossing the Mississippi into Iowa when we were all staying
[IMG]

The guys know how much I love my state signs and were sweet enough to slow down and pull over, but since it was a lane of traffic we were blocking, we didn’t get out.

FRIDAY NIGHT
After we had our fill at Reed’s we decided to heat down to the other bar in Wayland to check out the Rumblejetts show.
No wonder Breeder is the way he is, three businesses in town and two are bars!

I thought it was kind of funny they had ‘Men’s Night’ on Thursdays. I was going to ask Breeder what that was about but maybe I don’t want to know!

When we got to the door we saw there was a $5 cover charge, in Wayland?! The place looked packed so we thought we’d sneak around the back and see if there was even room to move in the place or if someone would open the back door for us! ;) )

Finally we gave in and went around the front. The place was PACKED to say the least!

They even let ‘Uncle Chuck’ out for the show!

The Rumblejetts rocked of course! (the place was REALLY smokey, they need to work on some ventilation!)

Big Otis filling in on drums
[IMG]

Nick32vic cutting a rug! Everyone was, we had a great time dancing!

Even Denise busted a move!

Between sets a lot of people hung out outside to get out of the smoke
[IMG]

or take a pee :D
[IMG]

*****ees!

Cars were already starting to line the street for the show
[IMG]

Turns out the bar is actually called ‘Mean Girls’. I wonder if they named it after that Lindsey Lohan flick?

The Rumblejetts played a rockin’ show until about one or so at which time we all retreated back to IOWA for some more partying in the Super 8 parking lot! Good friends and good times (probably not for the poor people inside the room trying to sleep though :( )

Finally about 3 we called it a night. Tomorrow would be a BIG day in Wayland. Probably the biggest day all year! :D

Saturday morning, with morning being a relative term:D, was sunny and very warm. Since we stayed out so late we decide to just wake up whenever. Well about 11am we decided to get up, I showered then headed out to the parking lot where I ran into HotRodRoadster and Malcolm who were just heading out in Gary’s roadster. I’d told them we’d catch up at the show. I drove Big Olds over to the hose and proceeded to wash the road grime and bugs off and Megan dried. Wasn’t long and we were on the road heading back to Wayland.

We weren’t even parked yet and we ran into Mrs Hellfish and the twins. The girls are just beautiful. It will be fun to watch them grow up thru the years at the different car events in the Midwest.

We then registered and started walking around. It seemed like we were the last to arrive. The town was PACKED! The band was playing and everyone was doing something.

Got lei’d by Gerg right away. GREAT seeing ya again sweetie. You’ll always be my first in Wayland.;)

Caught up with Gary AKA HotRodRoadster, Uncle John, Nick AKA Malcolm, and Troy AKA Greezy.

And wasn’t long before running into DaTinman, OldBobSign and company. It was certainly nice meeting the extended family
[IMG]

Where can you go and find beer for a buck served by such handsome boys??

Ran into RJ Gideon and got a huge hug! Wonderful meeting you and hanging out bud.

Karl’sKustom was busy selling goodies to the public. Awesome seeing you and sweetie and party with ya all weekend. Looking forward to doing it again next month in DesMoines
[IMG]

Can’t remember these dudes names but the one on the right we had seen at the HopUp party during Speed Week so we stopped, introduced ourselves and chatted abit.

This was very sweet looking
[IMG]

Suave’sBuick at his roadster talking on the phone

Russco and his lovely wife Sandy’s truck. It was nice seeing ya again. I was bummed to see the photos of BigSam's smashed ride but happy him and his wife still decided to attend. Not sure I could have spent a weekend with the general public after an event like that. Kudos to him and I hope to see the car in person soon. We’ll probably run into you boys this weekend in Indy.

KP AKA Kropduster, Megan and SurfaceDoctor. LOVED hanging with you both this weekend. Flew by way too fast though.

Even though it’s not a roadster it was probably my favorite there. Saw Kustombuilder sniffing around and talking to the owner so I’m sure there is going to be a full feature in Rod&Kultue in the near future.

But if I had to choose one to take home it’d be Gary’s roadster:cool:

Parked the cars then Dallas whipped out this bottle of Jack that I won for long distance at Malcolm's Halloween party last October but I couldn’t take it back to Detroit with me so Dallas held on to it knowing that it would be the perfect party starter at some point the following summer and boy was he right. :D We p***ed that bottle to probably over 30 HAMB folks and everyone took a swig.

Athena, sweetheart, it was wonderful seeing you again. I’m so glad we got more time at this event to chat and get to know each other. Lets plan a girls cruz in Big Olds at the HunnertCarPileup. Maybe we can all go somewhere and have a ****tail or something. Say “Hi” to your dad from me, it was certainly nice meeting him and the rest of your family at dinner.

My pal Ruiner, thanks for the hug bud but next time we have to spend more time hanging out and chatting.

After discussing for awhile who was going to drive who’s car back to the motel and who’s cars were staying put, we all hopped in cars and got everyone back to the motel parking lot without incident. The really cool thing about all of this was with all the drinking and stuff there were no harsh words or drama. Folks that drank too much readily handed their keys over to their sober bubbys and every seat heading back was full.

Once back at the motel…

SUNDAY MORNING
No one wanted to go home but everyone said we had to. The plan was to leave around 830 for the long drive home for pretty much everyone there. Our 830 was more like 930 once the car was packed and goodbyes were said.
Everyone grabbing the little bit of shade there was. It was already shaping up to be a hot roadster day.

Hellraiser recommended a scenic route along the east side of the M-i-s-s-i-s-s-i-p-p-i River for those heading north. As soon as we crossed the M-i-s-s-i-s-s-i-p-p-i we were in Illinois. What would this story be without another state sign? :D
[IMG]

The drive up the river was gorgeous. Great photo ops along the way- Hellraiser’s coupe, hot-rod roadster’s roadster, and Hawgrod’s Willys
[IMG]

Once we turned east from the river we entered a historic town called Nauvoo. According to Hellraiser,
“Nauvoo was the settlement of the Mormons before they were run out of Illinois. Their leader Joseph Smith was taken from the jail in Quincy Illinois and killed. They then traveled across Iowa and crossed at Council Bluffs Iowa and spent the winter in North Omaha, or as it was known at that time Florence. From there they launched onward to Salt Lake City. The temple of the Latter Day Saints, I believe is the largest east of the Mississippi. This was just re-constructed two years ago. It is really a grand place. The summer of it's dedication (a couple of years ago) it was open to the public. It is now closed to the public.

This is the Temple he referred to. It is GIANT!

Not too long after Denise and I parted ways with the rest of the group. We headed east while everyone else went west. The trip home was hot and not very scenic. LOTS of fields and LOTS of sun.

Ahhh, the joys of ******* cruising, bug to the arm- yucko!

Since we hadn’t stopped to eat at all that day ice cream was in order. Denise has been telling me about an ice cream place called the Parour in Jackson, Michigan. We decided that would make a great dinner! Just as we were pulling off the freeway the temp on Big Olds shot up a bunch. Normally he runs about 185 degrees and it was quickly approaching 220 degrees! Once we stopped I popped the hood and you could see where the antifreeze had bubbled over a little. We decided it would be best to let it cool while we at and ***ess the damage after ‘dinner’.

It made a mess of her pretty ‘Autorama’ detailed engine compartment!

The inside of the Parlour is really neat. It has ‘U’ shaped bars that the waitresses serve out of. They have tons of flavors and custom sundaes. After much deliberation we chose the following:
Her peanut ****er something…
[IMG]

Mine cream puff with strawberry ice cream..

These sundaes were HUGE! I knew there was no way I could ever eat all of it. Some people did though…
Hers :D
[IMG]

Mine :(

Defnitely a fun place to visit. If you ever p*** thru Jackson be sure to look it up-- 1401 Daniel Rd; Jackson, MI 49202 (517) 783-1581—so old fashioned they don’t even have a website!

While we were finishing up our ice cream a guy approached us and asked if we needed help with our car. Denise of course being the nice girl she is said sure. While I was paying my bill he helped her refill the radiator to the appropriate level. Turns out him and his wife had a bunch of cars themselves so they ‘understood’. We got back on the road and were most of the way to Denise’s when the temp started to rise again. It was hovering between 210 and 220 so we decided to just make a run for the house. I’m guessing it might be the radiator cap but Denise is going to have her shop check it out just to be sure—to be continued! Despite the erratic temp gauge we made it back to her house safe and sound. I quickly moved my stuff from Big Olds to my car and hit the road for Ohio.

We both had a great weekend seeing old friends and meeting new ones. I finally meet the (in)famous breeder and his adorable wife Shana. Thanks so much for rolling out the welcome mat in Wayland for all of us out of towners. Never a dull moment with Catherine (DW) around! I wish you lived closer, my liver is glad you don’t! Always fun to hang out with Omaha gang. Looking forward to RR ’09!

Watch next week for the Goodguys Indy installment of Thelma and Louise’s Done and in the Sun 2008 Tour!

You two are the greatest - I had a blast over the weekend and look forward to more fun at GG Des Moines! :)

Thanks for the great write-up - it certainly helped put names with faces of people that I didn't get a chance to *officially* meet.... even though I may have talked to them some.
