I agree that safety standards must be updated and enforced. From what I saw that track was not the optimum set-up. ANY driver disabled during a run, for whatever reason, could ultimately hit the wall. That isn't a track that I would be too keen on racing at...imagine brake failure, chute failure, throttle sticking, etc... Scott didn't have to die that way, period. All I am saying is that we can foam pad the world and people are STILL going to find ways to get hurt. This is a sport and the participants are aware of the dangers. Aside from the fact that that track shouldn't have been used, the sport itself is always up on safety. Dumbing it down and taking out of it that VERY thing that makes it DRAG racing, exciting and competitive IMO would ultimately hurt the sport. Upgrade safety and track standards, limit speed from here on out, but do NOT go backwards....
It's surprising that most of the participants don't bother to check out the shut down area.....DDDDUUUUUHHHHH!!!!!!
there is plenty of space to add row after row of water barrels and even that safer barrier they use in nascar, thats been proven to absorb a huge amount of energy. that entire area between the end of the sand pit could be used for energy absorbing materials. and whats to stop them from closing the road during these events with these high powered cars? temp shut down the road and get rid of the jersey barrier. they if they overrun they just run across the road. not trying to start a fight on here just makes sense to me. I mean they close roads for other things going on. it's not like they have these events with these nitro cars every day. I mean it would be an inconvienience for some people but you could announce days before there we be funny cars running on this day,the road will be closed for such and such a time. i mean people will complain but the amount of money coming in for the event will shut most people up.
