  1. Kinda what I was thinkin !

  2. I'm just going to assume that you paid $50.00 for the car and the only thing wrong with it was the X-member.

    You got a great deal.

Without a price and some pics, I'm just going to assume that you made out like a bandit.

  3. i wil post the pics i was sent before i made the deal, then i will post pics of what i acutally got. i did do the research prior to buying it. even had him do a walk around the car and hit on panels, describe the fit of the doors, describe the condition of the frame, the body, the size of the hole in the trunk, etc.
this is no beauty queen, but they only made 3,074 of these cars. so anything is a starting point. the settling price was $950 as is.
cant seem to load pics. maybe create an album.

geez, that is a lot of drama for a "rare" car that was purchased for $950. Considering what you likely paid for transportation and considering that there must be some valuable parts to sell, how could you lose money? You likely don't have much more than $1500 invested.

It is too bad you feel taken advantage of. Perhaps you were. Perhaps the dealer was less than truthful. That is unfortunate.

On the other hand, on a car that was sold for $950, how much margin could the selling dealer have made? We know he must have invested some time and energy in selling it. Even if he got it for nothing, he likely didn't make much, if anything.

Still doesn't make it right if you were duped. But is it worth all the drama.

OK, enough said by me. Thanks for letting me put a dime in the jukebox.

You said you had him check the fit of the doors? A car with doors for $950 sounds like a deal to me...

i bought a car from Jim back in '03, actualy it was his son Jr. but the car was from Austin motors, and the pics were great at least 20 of them.

the only complaint i had was the car had the drivers side window open and on the way over here to Ca. it was snowing and the windows looked real funny because they were dirty on the inside with the rest of the interior, fast clean up, just looked funny.

pulled what i needed and sold the rest.

guess i was lucky, but the pictures sold me.

Yah I'm confused, especially since this 38 Cad, 4 door with rot and a serious case of the uglies is listed for $2400.....

Some people are just in it for the money ,Some dont know anything about cars .Im not making excuses for them .I always look before I buy ,I only got burned once and that was my own fault .That was an 1100.00 week ,Blew up truck in 1 week of ownership .Next time Ill be more careful poking around frame .Even though I blew the motor up .Frame was flexing real bad when it was being unloaded off roll back. Fiberglassed and undercoated frame .

I always ask for picks of the car top to bottom, asking for info is useless because that info is what the seller sees($$$$$) ,and not what the buyer sees. But now you know....for next time.By the waay, post up some pics of this car. Wouldn't it have been great if you could have asked a fellow HAMBer that lived in that part of the country to go by and take some pics for you and give an unbiased opinion?Just thinking out loud.

  13. Buying a '38 Cad is a whole other animal compared to a Ford or a Chevy...

I think any of us like looking at old tin enough to go give something a second set of eyes for a fellow HAMB'er...nothing shameful about a 2nd or 3rd opinion.

i agree , but when someone says , "used car salesman" discribing someone....

    what is your first thought?

....i wouldn't trust anything a salesman told me ESPECIALLY a CAR salesman ...it always pays to do homework,...whats cherry to one person is shit to the next ...which are basically opinions "its a nice car " compared to what? it really tells you nothing... "it was new once" these guys along with a lot of private sellers know how to bend words ...always expect the worst if you never see it yourself in person

  19. this thread is really not justified until some decent pic's can be viewed. 70 year old cars even rust in cal. so why the huge surprise. i personally have waisted countless hours looking at huge pieces of shit in the past and will probably do so in the future if i continue in this hobby. anyone that claims they haven't are full of it!
