Well the last couple of months I have taken on a F100 project, some may call it a rat rod even though I know that phrase is frowned upon around here. But either way it is what it is. I built my own frame, chopped the top and put a Speedway 4" drop suicide axle, leaf spring rear. I finally got a rolling chasis last weekend, have a couple pics of the progress. I would like to here some input from some of you guys with a insight to tell me what you would put on to make it a really nice ride. My imagination is not as vast as some of you that have built cars for awhile so if you have any cool ideas let me know. So far besides getting a motor (I have a 454 getting built) what do you think would make this truck pop? I have some big white walls planned in the future thats about all I have in mind.
first spray at least some primer on it and raise it up abit then shorten the front frame rails abit get the front wheels more where they belong in relation to the cab ...... you asked
Have you checked your scrub line? It looks like if you get a flat on the back you're going to be dragging the frame... not a good thing.
If you really want to drive this any great distance, it needs to be raised and better proportioned. Study the masters (Gambino, Cole, Choprods, Kennedy Brothers, ect) The stigma of a 'toony-P-O-S will get you no where here, on this board. There are other web sites that are well into the look you are heading in. Thats cool there. Simple, tasteful mods will hold up to the test of time (timeless) and never be confused with a 'fad' or trend'. Good luck in your build.
trust me, as clean as it is right now, it isnt a ratrod. just dont get all cobbwebby on us. i am with rich g, check the scrubline, and add a cruss member or two. but the frame does look pretty slick to me. im on the fence with fenders. i wouldnt put stock ones on, but something with a little more of a flow. a nice top hood with no sides. bright green metallic paint with some white in there somewhere, clean the 454 with some chrome, and make it a 50-60's show truck. keep it up though!
check out killbillet.com for comparable builds the responses you'll be getting will be like above better get your firesuit on now with that said, I built a similar truck a couple years ago (see avatar for truck I ruined) finished it and traded for a model A (future project) now have a '48 F1 that's pretty close to stock F1's have too bulbous of a body to run fenderless SEE THE LIGHT BROTHA! although there is this exception by HAMB'r jgb7038 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=377164
