Half of the beauty of it is that it came with an A-body 8¾".

Torsion bars were amputated a long time ago...

Gonna try to work out the tranny X-member and front brakes this weekend. Oughta at least have a stop pedal by Monday.

    Certified.

Why couldnt you use or make aluminum engine plates(front and rear) instead of motor mounts to free up some space for the headers or make fenderwell headers like the chevy II have ? Just a thought? The only problem I could see with the fenderwell headers is, That the exhaust ports on the poncho are angled down.

    BAAADAAAASSSS!
That thing is gonna kick arses!
I have a source for poncho header flanges,I think...
Try Butler performance. You will probably end up talking to Jim himself. super nice guy and he knows all the ins and outs of poncho stuff.

if I was not sure it is gonna get driven on the street, I would say to just buy some 180 bends and run the exhaust straight up outta the hood.

or, you can go ahead and do it and pray for the best. but I will tell you I once got 6 months probation in FLA for driving a car without shoes and pants...(long story. god forbid you drive around in boxer shorts...)

DEFINITELY fenderwells. Street driving, too. But no driving in boxers.

Only tight spot for headers is near the steering shaft...I'm gonna dick around with it next week with some PVC pipe and maybe a couple of steering u-joints. And some beers.

I haven't read the whole thread but can you say RACK AND PINION STEERING? if you can install one and get rid of the bump steer your home free. Shouldn't bee too much of a job when you consider all of the work making everything fit as it now is.
Just went back for a reread. If you're using the straight axle , mount the rack on the axle and there will be no bump steer issues. Just use a telescoping shaft in the steering system to compensate for length changes when the front suspension works up and down. Possibly a double D arrangement.

  14. One thing comes to mind when I here straight axel and rack and pinion in the same sentince. " ABORTION" You can put TPI on a flatheadand make it work, but will it ever be right?

Slayer, I understand the term "abortion" in reference to a rack mounted on a straight axle. The reason for that is that there has seldom been one done correctly. It's certainly not mainstream, but it can be engineered to work properly. Just because you can't 1-800 the deal doesn't render it impossible.
