Hey everyone been around the boards for awhile but for one reason or another my projects would always fall through. But on Wednesday I finally was able to pick something up and it was completely free so cant complain. I got an all-steel body 28 Ford(what I was but not sure) with the original frame as well. I know this thing is rough and really not too much of the original car left. Oh yea I also got a 239 flathead in what looks to be original state, it does run as well. What do you guys think? The picture is what I got when I was told to come pick it up.
Looks like you got yourself a 28-29 Model A Tudor that had the roof removed. Those hinges need to go. Does look rough but some folks have fixed worse. Good luck on your project.
I can see it now. Suede paint, some chrome, a nasty flatty, quick change for aural sensation, you sitting in it, driving on down the road... Yup, I can see it now! Good start, just fill in the blanks.
Good project. Don't want to get off topic but respect the avatar, key of Solomon. Good luck in your endeavors.
Welcome to the HAMB! That's a cool project. If it were mine, I'd lose the hinges, replace the tudor windshield with a roadster windshield & build something like Jake's tub. (the pre-"Jakeopage" version) Heres a pic. There are two HAMB threads with more pics.
Joe, I think you have a good start. The body is rough as a cob. Vern Tardel has a series of books on the AV8. A AV8 is simply a Model A with a flathead V8. That series of books will help a lot. The first priority in my opinion is the chassis. Getting the chassis, suspension and running gear right are key. Basically that is the heart of the car. Body improvements can be made or even swapped. As far as that body....... I’m seeing a very early and raw 1940s style jalopy. For that type of car, the sedan windshield is OK. If you do the chassis right, you can always up grade the body. Good luck. Take a peek at the link below. It’s from 1946. https://www.imcdb.org/v195232.html
Ha! When I was just out of high school, I "fixed" a buddy's VW van door with those same hinges. A coat hanger & a torch had him back on the road. I was surprised that it worked. You've got a start. What I like about projects like this, is you can take them in whatever direction strikes your fancy, and not feel bad about cutting up something nice.
