2016 was the year where life would just as soon kick you in the nuts as sing Kumbaya to you. I am ready to put this year in the rearview mirror, it has been a rough one for so many of us.

I hope that everyone here and their loved ones have a prosperous and healthy new year. And may all your tin be Henry and all your flatties crack free. Amen.

  5. Honestly, after 2 years and one setback, my knee is about 90%.
    1. Replaced knee. 2. Went thru 33 sessions of therapy. 3. Fell in garage, new knee fell directly onto rear end pinion flange, which was facing towards ceiling. 4. Back through full 33 sessions of therapy again. 5. Back at 90%.

The good thing about a New Year is that we all get to start over, sort of.
If we were not aware of it before, 2016 reminded us that we are not guaranteed another tomorrow.

As we begin the New Year, lets do some of the things we have been putting off. Spend more time with our friends and family. Take better care of ourselves. Invest in something not for yourself, but for someone else. And slow down, even stop, and enjoy the good things and good times more. When things go wrong, think hard about which fights are worth fighting for, and let the others go. We only get one shot at this life, lets make it the best we can. A New Year is a great time to make some changes in our lives. Gene

2016 was a great year for me Danny, if you recall it was much better than 2013  At that time they were digging into my brain and I thought I might be done.
As it was it was a leak that they could fix and not something nasty like a tumor.
5 hours on the operating table and some re-hab and here I am
In any case I'm doing my best to try to finish the RPU this year, I want to drive it. Just packed up a box to ship to the chrome shop, 67 pounds
    Happy new year to all.

I'm looking forward to 2017 because 2016 gave me lots. New grandson, better health as I quit smoking cigarettes Dec 15.2015. The money I saved quitting motivated me to finally get back to my teenage passion of old cars. A very much deserved merit increase at work by about 20 percent and wasn't too bad to begin with really. Yes i lost both young and old loved ones and friends, but that is inevitable. All in all it was a good year here. Bring on 2017 and it's going to be awesome!

    Danny,
It's been a year of way-too-many losses of old friends, R&C Pioneers/Legends, and many of our friends here at the H.A.M.B. Accidents, broken bones, the Big "C", short & long-term illnesses, and many other factors have plagued so many of us...and our friends.

I've had more than my share of portions of all of the above this year. So, I hope that you, Danny, and all of those who've taken the time to post here, have a much happier, nicer, and, certainly healthier 2017 !

An old story I found and posted here.
    A good one that relates.

    Subject: 1000 Marbles
The older I get, the more I enjoy Saturday mornings.
Perhaps it's the quiet solitude that comes with being the first to rise, or maybe it's the unbounded joy of not having to be at work. Either way, the first few hours of a Saturday morning are most enjoyable.
A few weeks ago, I was shuffling toward the basement shack with a steaming cup of coffee in one hand and the morning paper in the other. What began as a typical Saturday morning, turned into one of those lessons that life
seems to hand you from time to time. Let me tell you about it.I turned the dial up into the phone portion of the band on my ham radio in order to listen to a Saturday morning swap net. Along the way, I came across an older sounding chap, with a tremendous signal and a golden voice. You know the kind; he sounded like he should be in the broadcasting
business. He was telling whomever he was talking with something about "a thousand marbles". I was intrigued and stopped to listen to what he had to say.
"Well, Tom, it sure sounds like you're busy with your job. I'm sure they pay you well but it's a shame you have to be away from home and your family so much. Hard to believe a young fellow should have to work sixty or seventy hours a week to make ends meet. Too bad you missed your daughter's
    dance recital."
He continued, "Let me tell you something Tom, something that has helped me keep a good perspective on my own priorities". And that's when he began to explain his theory of "a thousand marbles".
"You see, I sat down one day and did a little arithmetic. The average person lives about seventy-five years. I know, some live more and some live less, but on average, folks live about seventy-five years. Now then, I multiplied 75 times 52 and I came up with 3900, which is the number of
Saturdays that the average person has in their entire lifetime. Now,stick with me Tom, I'm getting to the important part. It took me until I was fifty-five years old to think about all this in any detail", he went on, "and by that time I had lived through over twenty-eight hundred
Saturdays. I got to thinking that if I lived to be seventy-five, I only had about a thousand of them left to enjoy. I went to a toy store and bought every single marble they had. I ended up having to visit three toy stores to round up 1000 marbles. I took them home and put them inside of a
large, clear plastic container right here in the sack next to my gear. Every Saturday since then, I have taken one
marble out and thrown it away. I found that by watching the marbles diminish, I focus more on the really important things in life. There is nothing like watching your time here on this earth run out to help get your priorities straight. Now let me tell you one last thing before I sign-off with you and take my lovely wife out for breakfast.
This morning, I took the very last marble out of the container. I figure that if I make it until next Saturday then I have been given a little extra time. And the one thing we can all use is a little more time.It was nice to meet you, Tom, I hope you spend more time with your family,
and I hope to meet you again here on the band. 75 year Old Man, this is K9NZQ, clear and going QRT, good morning!"
You could have heard a pin drop on the band when this fellow signed off.Guess he gave us all a lot to think about. I had planned to work on the antenna that morning, and then I was going to meet up with a few hams to
work on the next club newsletter. Instead, I went upstairs and woke my wife up with a kiss."C'mon honey, I'm taking you and the kids to breakfast."What brought this on?", she asked with a smile."Oh, nothing special,it's just been a long time since we spent a Saturday together with the kids. Hey, can we stop at a toy store while we're out?
I need to buy some marbles.... "

Thanks HRP for the post - made me sit and think about this year and ponder on the next one - I'll be 62 this coming year and am thinking about retiring - " The body remembers what the mind forgets " and my job at times takes it's toil on my body - time to put in perspective what's important in life - with the passing of my wife Teresa 3 years ago the 20th of next month and her telling me to get my old truck '38 chevy on the road and getting back in my wood shop - I've found solace here on this site with the humanity shown - the support given with loss of family and friends - help with problems and questions found with our hobby / passion - To all a safe and Happy New Year - Keep on Trucking!

Healthwise, this year has been about the same. Arthur still visits me, I just have to work around him getting in the way. Financially, 2016 was only slightly better than 2015, and both sucked, making about 1/3 less than I did each of the 5 years before, but having to pay out more on bills, so hot rod money has been kinda slim. Optimistic about 2017 though, my customers all seem to have a new found sense of optimism as do their customers. After the election was over, everybody seems to be looking forward to a new bunch coming in and changing things for the better, I hope they're right. Not to get into it any farther than that, but it just feels like most people I deal with are more comfortable now spending some money, so I'm hoping my business picks back up to pre 2015 levels.
On the family level, raising the Grandson is a challenge for us old farts, but it's great to see him growing and learning. He's already shown an interest in cars and trucks, he loves a good sounding exhaust, lol, and bright colors attract his attention. No pastel colors for him! He will inherit my stuff when I'm gone, so I want him to know as much about it as I do. Don't know what he will do with it, but hope he is the next generation of gearhead being the caretaker of my stuff.

I have read each and every reply and I am reminded of private conversations and post by many of you concerning close family members, wives, sons & daughters succumbing to cancer or a accident.

Members facing cancer treatments and undergoing surgeries.

We are ALL here for the same reason our love & passion for hot rods and customs but along the way we have established strong friendships, brothers of different mothers.

We will all have a clean slate tomorrow ~ and If you go out tonight to a party please don't drink and drive. HRP

I don't make resolutions but I am being real careful with my old shoulder. Not as careful as my lady would prefer, but the truth be known she never really liked me to drink beer and fight either.LOL

We lost a lot in '16. It pains me some, we no doubt will loose some in '17. Life is lived in minutes after. lets make the best of it. '17will be a good year if we let it.

Let me leave everyone with this final bit of bean humor.

I keep seeing these commercials that say that buzzed driving is drunk driving. So if I am going to drink and drive I may as well be blotto, right?

    buzzed.gif

OK the world according to the 'beaner aside, Some of you I don't like, some of you I really like and some of you I just like not to not like you. I don't want to loose a damned one of you, keep safe this evening and lets have the best damned New Year ever.

I personally had to quit drinking about 20 years ago...had to for surviving my drinking insanity at the time! That said, every year thereafter I've offered friends/co-workers a "safe ride" home on New Years Eve into the wee hours....I don't mind, as I'm up already anyways to watch the fireworks display....I'm expecting 2 calls tonight already, from younger fellas that my wife knows from her work....they will drop their keys off at our house, I'll take them to town and drop them off at place of choice....and I'll go get them when the partying is over, and take them home. Most of us HAMBer's look out for friends and family in the best of ways, and pass along kind gestures as we can....if you can offer a 'designated driver' status to a friend....please consider it. Happy New Years to all....please be safe out there!!!;):D:D:D
