No money for vacations #HAMB drags in '16 but still got my house and my coupe...family members need surgery in '17. I suppose the good and bad in '16 cancelled each other out so it was just ok.

I'm at the point of thinking it might not be better than the alternative. I expect the next year to bring even worse. The nightmare is about to begin.

Ummmm, the marble story, I'll give you my way, the way I was shown, Go right now, get a tape measure, one with really big numbers, cause we all got trouble seeing, lay it out to eight inches, lock it there. The average guy makes it to eighty, we pretty much depend on that, eight inches on the tape represents that. Well........I've made it to 6 and 1/8, I'm getting pretty close to eight inches, or, at least, I've burned up most of the eight inches shown. GET ON WITH IT, there aren't many inches left. Engine Man, I don't know your pain, but I can tell you from experience, the alternative is permanent, for us here now, tomorrow is always a new day, you can never tell what it'll bring. Look up buddy, there's no bad days, some are just not as good as others.

Times of drastic change are the times to be hopeful. I guess I HAVE to believe that, I have a small child. But if you look back, positive change is always preceded by upheaval and turmoil.

    rusty1,
You're exactly right. Reminds me of the posters that were out during the time of Woodstock during the 60's. They were everywhere ! In college dorms, in "head shops", and almost anywhere you looked...I think even some businesses used this quote: "Today is the first day of the rest of your life."

What rusty1 said, and what that quote says is really true for all of us. Again, Danny, thanks for starting this great Thread to end the year on !

They will probably delete these posts, Nov 7th of 1987 here. The last 10 years of my life have been the best ten, and far better than ANYTHING I EVER expected. I know peace, happiness, and a sense of personal freedom that I never thought I would know. Even in sobriety, I have spent time with the "black dog" as Churchill referred to it. The first 27 years of my life were a bleak wasteland, that I would wish on no one. It all goes in cycles, I am cherishing this time. I could so easily be homeless or dead. So much of what happens is so trivial, and I don't allow it to rent any space in my head anymore. I am so blessed.

2016 really sucked. Lots of friends dying off. I used wonder what my mom was doing opening the paper and looking at the obituaries first thing in the morning...... now that I'm an old fart I understand but no more papers it's all on the web now.

Good and BAD got my heart rebuilt and actually was DEAD during the surgery. I hope the rebuild lasts as long as the original LOL the good It's still ticking.

Had a few "whew that was close moments" with people trying with all their might to kill me with bullets or bombs and shrugged them off but with the rebuilt ticker I REALLY REALLY am enjoying each and every day now so here's to hoping 2017 is much better.

The HAMB kept me from going stir crazy while down and recovering.:)

    Hey FG,
Peace and Happiness...theme song about the 60's...Today, we are all three house payments away from being homeless. But, times are good and it is well deserved. Hard work and tons of play make me a happy old guy here, that is for sure.

Here's coming at you...Kenny Lindley with Don Hampton driving... Lions 1959-60 FED staging lane

New Year’s Day always brings back memories of what happened in the past year. But, for me, this year brought back writing about Lions Dragstrip memories, making new friends, and continuing doing more things with our granddaughter. (11 years and running) All of these things were pushed to the forefront when I digitized my 16mm color films. (Family movies from the past, drag racing, vacations, reconnecting with old friends, togetherness in college, new friends, etc.)

But, the idea that 57 year old films could bring up those good memories again was a huge bonus.

Here is one of the things that started it all: gone but not forgotten: Lions Dragstrip…Pit passes got you places where no one else could go at the dragstrip. Getting this shot of one of our favorites (Kenny Lindley’s FED with Don Hampton driving) at Lions in 1959 was an interesting event. With a fixed lens movie camera, you had to get up close to get those shots. Lions had the pits, the staging area lanes for the classes, and a side road for firing up FED racers going to the starting line. Those FEDs that did not need the long push start up the strip and back to the starting line. Actually, this pre-staging push start was so cool as it was parading in front of all of the spectators for a preview of what is coming next.

    Memories, what a concept...

  18. I don't know that you can really call what I do drinking. I have a drink occasionally and try to remain blotto once a year in Joplin. I also remain in the hotel parking lot. As long as Mike isn't there I don't get into too much trouble. :D

Our New Years Eve was quiet. Other than the beginning of WWIII at midnight. I hope that everyone is still on this side of he grass. Its gonna be a good year for everyone. :)

I'm looking forward to 2017, back to work in 2 days which I am nervous about but I'm sure I'll be fine once I get there. I have cardiac rehab starting soon too.. and they said no shoveling snow. My boys can do that for me. I'm sure I'll get back to where I was by the summer.

Have some work planned on the house and garage and of course the Ford. I was going to retire at 62 until I lost my wife. I think I can hack another 3 years with enough vacations. I'll be padding my 401k at the very least.

I really took little time off in 2016, I was busy at work and towards the fall not feeling that great. But I did max out my medical leave.

LOL WOW had about $35,000 in a CD at my bank for years never paid it any attention just kept rolling it over. Went to the bank site to start collecting my tax interest paid for the year so I get a jump on getting my refund.

this is what it says YOU HAVE NO FORMS TO BE SENT OUT THIS YEAR AS IT DID NOT GENERATE ENOUGH INTEREST TO BE MORE THAN THE $10.00 MINIMUM THAT NEEDS TO BE REPORTED TO THE IRS.

What that means is they had my money for a year and didn't even pay me more than $9.99. So out it came into my regular checking account.

THEN the bank lady had the AUDACITY to say "You know if you close this early there will be a deduction for early withdrawal" and I replied "what do you mean the 0.02 cents as a percentage you go ahead and KEEP IT". She did turn red and said "we HAVE to say that."

If you live in the Kansas City area you may have heard about the building that exploded in Grandview last night.

Short story... I stayed late at work yesterday and drove by that business just 3, or 4, minutes before the explosion. My house is just a half mile away and I was standing in my driveway when the first blast took place. I'm glad no one was hurt last night and I'm really hoping that by missing a close up view of the calamity that this marks a beginning of my new for 2017 good luck. Lord knows I'm ready for a change!

Take care everyone and a very HAPPY NEWYEAR!
