I am looking to run some short strait pipe with removable motorcycle baffles but I dont wanna burn my valves up everytime I take my baffles out can anyone tell me how short I can make my pipe so this doesn't happen
on 99% of engines, that idea qualifies as a myth. Make them however short you like, even if it sounds like ****!
+1 on that. The "open-headers= burnt valves" myth has been around for a lot longer than I have, yet some people still believe it. It doesn't happen so run whatever you're eardrums can tolerate.
Usually, eight pipes sound like a lot of noise. Two sets of four into one collectors sounds much better and if done right will increase HP.
Well thanks guys im 21 years old i wish i didnt have to put any exhaust at all but the cops around my parts dont care for that i am going to cut them 13'' its 1 3/4 inch pipe so ill see how it goes i just want to be safe i dont know everything and def dont have the funds to be guessing
i might just build these for now i would love some lake styles but def cant afford them yet maybe ill use these to swap out to piss the conservative guys off
God I'm glad you're not my neighbor! Sounds like getting attention is more important to you than the rights of others to a little peace and quiet. Crank up the "system" while your cruisin' too, boom boom boom, "conservatives" hate that too. PS And if the rights of others argument doesn't convince you, do a search for the thread about tinnitus.
Zoomies are gay unless you have a funny car/dragster. Even my 2 bbl 305s sound hard with open headers. But at least it'll be loud while you're making your 18 second p*** or doing a open rear burnout
roddinron.... yeah its great your not my neighbor i drive the car maybe once a week its not about attention its about doing whatever I WANT TO DO i dont do a damn thing to please anyone if cars are to loud for you move to a retirement home you might get some quiet there
Yeah, well good job... 'cause you damn sure pissed me off already. I mean besides the fact that you're functionally illiterate.
------------------------------------------- Double-ditto on that. The 'open headers causing burnt exhaust valves' story is old wives tale, and a total and complete myth, spread by mechanical ignoramuses! Mart3406 =================================
On second thought, maybe I was wrong about you, you sound like a very mature and understanding person. ^^^ PS hot rodders who go around "******* off conservatives" or liberals, or anyone in between, are the ones who screw it up for the rest of us.
Maybe one of these days he'll grow out of it like I did as I got older... Part of the reason was that the boys in blue were always on my case about loud exhaust..
well i am sorry that i have managed to piss everyone off Ill take the more quiet approch to my exhaust system when i grow up one day
Unless its a well tuned high compression engine it does and will sound like ***.Go to a race track and listen to a high compression engine at idle ,quiet or a nice rumble more often than not.Untill you turn it on and the roar begins.Good squish and combustion chamber design come into play.Stock low compression poor chamber design and no timing sounds like and is noise. What im getting at is if you play that card just be able to walk your talk and not be another kid looking stupid when a person who has there stuff together spanks your *** severly in a test of acceleration with a quiet smooth running vehicle. To quote a wise man,Its better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt.Open pipes scream fool unless its the way you talk and can prove it.Good luck either way. Gary
I disagree with 8 pipes sounding bad. my friend has a rover 215 with zoomies and i think it sounds good... however you are going to loose some torque because of no scavenging.
This is where I depart from a lot of people when building cars - Hot Rods should be about function first, form second. A naturally aspirated V8 will perform sooooo much better with an appropriately sized and proper length 4 into one header, and sound one hell of a lot better as well (just as a side benefit). If you are putting the effort into building something why not make an improvement, not make it run worse? If you want to run zoomies, put a 6:71 on top of there. Zoomies look kinda dumb with out a lung on top to me.
