dont want to burn valves up!!!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by galaxie65, Mar 4, 2010.

  1. Only thing I've ever seen in my 40+ years of rodding and racing is that valves get warped when the cold air hits 'em. And its gotta be pretty damned cold out for that to happen. If the once in a blue moon that its going to happen it will be after shut down when the valves are hot and don't have any hot gas flowing past them. You can avoid that by stuffing a rag in the pipes after shut down.

I personally wouldn't run them on anything but a full on dragster.

I did see a car a couple of years back that ran 4 into 2 on each side. It had a very different sound and I would think that it would be a good trade off. Of course the sound may have also been caused by the 180 degree crank the fella was running. :D

  2. I can see both sides to this, what the detractors are trying to say is the excess noise reflects on all of us, not just you. This gives the entire hobby (Lifestyle) a black eye, thats something we can do without.
The general public take a first impression and keep it, if it is yours they see and hear then from then on they label ALL of us as obnoxious.
I also see your point, your car, you wish to do your own thing with it.
As I understand it over there it is still illegal, once again gives us a bad name with the police. Something we definitely don't need.
There is also health reasons, being young you discount these arbitrarily. Hearing can not be fixed, tinnitus (Constant ringing in the ears) is not fun. I have this from my military service and it affects pretty much everything, makes conversation hard and you look like a ****head when your out at, say a pub a little background noise and your screwed. You cant hear ****, chicks don't dig it.
Over all reduction of hearing capacity WILL happen, you only need to spend 5 minutes a day or longer periods less often exposed to the noise.
It will benefit you and the rest of us for you to run a proper exhaust.
Please man think long and hard about this, careful selection of mufflers will get you both legal and still be loud. Have turn outs before the mufflers, when you need it you can pop them off and run out of the headers like at the track etc..
    Cheers,
    Doc.

A loud vehicle says I got a powerful engine,or a gutless stocker with no muffler and I wanna sound like I have a powerful engine. That's why the Ricer Boys put those fart cans on stock Honda Civics.
Noise is ok out in the country, less ok in built up areas.A little respect for neighbors is nice.
Next post will be "My neighbors are **** weasels, they called the cops on me cause my car has straight pipes. Now I got a fistful of summons and gotta clean up the junk cars on the property that no one complained about until I put on straight pipes."

I don't like my vehicles to be industrial loud, as in a bunch of noise, but I do like tone and to be able to hear my truck/car run.

My '54 Ford is getting 8 tailpipes kicked up in the air in front of the wheel thanks to some homemade 1-into-4 mufflers, and is powered by a 307 with a random 327 cam, Camaro Manifolds, Performer Intake, and a $10 quadrajet. Do whatever makes you happy.

Lemme try to explain it in simple terms.....
It's sorta like seeing the most beautiful girl you've ever seen, mini skirt revealing long shapely legs. A pair of perfectly formed 38DDs pushing through a sheer blouse. And you can see little bumps looking like tips on a missle.
She turns and smiles at you......OH MY!!
Problem is..."she's" a transgendered male who still has the equipment below.
Close but not the real thing. Now, hop into a 1968 Yenko 427 Camaro and go for a power shifting ride through the gears.
    See the difference?
You drive what you want, we'll stick to the real thing.

Just read your profile. Sounds like your whole thing is just about you, no respect for anyone else.
That will last a few years...................and then you'll find yourself "growing up". Life will be so much better without the chip on your shoulder.

When going to open pipes, re-jet the carb for that condition. Could create a lean condition possibly confused with burning the valves.
