Does anyone know how to align doors? My driver door is so off and I have to slam it a couple times to get it to stay shut and lock. Also my back doors stick out. Any wisdom on how to do this? Mucho gracias
One of the best investments you will ever make is here:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/COMP...rQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_3520wt_939 it covers almost anything you need to know, the cool part is you can print what you need and take it to the garage with you. Also if you contact Retro Jim by pm he can hook up up with the matching Ford Parts Manual for $12 including shipping,it covers 1949-59 Fords besides all the part numbers which you can Google to find stuff there are exploded views of all the cars components so you will know how everything fits together.
I have this same problem with my 54 right now. Part of my problem is the striker so I've already got new ones on order. I am adjusting the bolts to try and get the door flush. I've almost decided to have it all welded up and use the same hinges as the 49-51 shoebox.
solo 909. Pm me with your problem on door ailgnment. Give me a description of what side rear door, what side front door. I have been a body tech for more than 38 yrs. If you can send pics of ailgnment on car it would help. 54-55 fords have a poor door striker design. I aways replace them with bear claws or plymouth horizon latches.
Jeff- Yeah I for sure need a manual! 54- where did you buy new ones? Risky- one main issue is the driver door. I have to slam it shut a couple times to get it to close. A lot of the time it will be closed but while driving it will unlock and swing open. I'll try to take some pics and maybe a video for you tomorrow.
I had one of those CD-ROM manuals for my '63 F-100 and they're great. All I got so far for my '52 is the print version. Good, yes, but not quite as good as the CD-ROM version I've found.
Just for a quick adjustment, you might try moving your striker out and up a taste, that might help a little bit. Bear claws are a good idea, I can't stand how they look. Of course, doors are shut most of the time
