after reading the pileup theif posts i was wondering what you guys are doing for door looks on your early hot rods? if anything?? are there any "stylish" handles that would look good on a early 30s car that have a lock in them?? hidden would work just as well as a key in the side of the door. so what are all of you doin? tim
thats actualy exactly what i was pictureing in my head! so is there any seperate mechanism to the whole set up or does it just make it so you cant turn the handle when the key is 'locked' internaly?
It makes it so you cant turn the handle when the key is locked. Heres the down fall. Really not 'TOO' theft deterant. It goes on with two screws (from the outside - go figure). Remove the screws, back it out a bit, then turn and you got an open ride. You will have to cut the shaft down to fit. I use some lock tight on mine so I know it will be a bit harder to remove by them hodlums.
hmm cool, ill have to check into that and see what allthey offer for differnt styles, not sure that curvy unit woudl work on a 30. bet it looks great on a 34 though! could probably use some alen headed screws to make it a bit harder as well tim
On certain stuff I'm not so scared of them stealing the car, just stuff out of or off of. **** some of you guys have such personalized setups, that you'd have to know the car to get it running, and in gear, etc.... to steal the whole car. But you know what they say "If they want it they'll get it." I loose sleep on overnight runs, cause I stess about that stuff. Rod runs are perfect targets for car theives not just the petty guys. Look at Viva two years ago. Theif drove a '59 PINK Cadillac right off the roof top in the middle of a crowd. BALLS!!!!! Someone said it in the Pileup valvecover post. "How you going to know the guy messing with the car isn't the owner?" I guess thats how we all evolve to being Goldchainers hauling our cars around in Enclosed Trailers and only letting them out when we have them within eyesite. Another high profile theft that I recall is someone jacked one of those wicked skull radiator caps that the Rolling Bones guys run off a car while it was parked in a show. BALLS!!!!
I have solenoids on my custom, not being big on remotes I put an ing. type switch in the side of my recessed licencs plate, turns of power same as locking the door.
its actually fairly easy to shave the doors then install a typical gm doorlock (these are held in place by a piece of spring steel inside the door) then hook it to the release on your door strike . safe and clean
I have locking door handles on my A sedan. They are like those pictured above but Model a style. A lock only keeps away the honest theives.
No door handles here, If parked for long periods I have a external battery cut off switch will preclude the door poppers from popping....(hidden of course)
I use the factory locks on my Model A- but, rarely lock the doors unless I have something desirable sitting on the seats. I mean, is the magazine or whatever laying out REALLY worth more than side gl***? I have theft measures in place so it would be hard to take the car, but rarely worry about whats inside it cause they'll just break the windows.............
