What are the drivers of older F1s putting on their doors for locks?

My driver's door has no lock, and must be locked form the inside. I need to do something to the passenger side as well, as I have no key. I'm not interested in climbing out on the passenger side as Ford wanted me to.

What are you guys doing if you aren't shaving the handles?

interesting problem, and one i never figured out. before i shaved the handles on clarence i just exited the driver's door, walked around to the passenger door, reached through to lock the driver's door, then locked the passenger door.

shaving the handles solved the problem.

As spudshaft said, you could just replace the stock key lock on the passenger door. The deluxe cab F1s had key locks in both doors, you could also get ahold of the mechanism for the driver side door and install that.

  5. Why shave? Those have got to be the best looking handels Ford ever made. Oh and I just don't lock mine. Security buy 2 150lbs Graet Danes.

I was told that the '48 never had an option for a driver's side lock - it wasn't 'till the 50's. I didn't see any in the Mac's catalog. Perhaps I can find a newer truck and steal the mechanism.

I don't want to shave them, because I think they look great.

I reckon that the newer hardware would probably work on the '48.

  8. My '53 still didn't have drivers side locks.
I probably got a lock from my F truck here that you can put in the door. I got a bunch of extra stuff. But you'll have to go to a locksmith to have a key made.
Or contact sacramento ford and get a pair of door locks from them. Then just punch a hole in the door and make a rod to hook it up.

OH I ment to say I'm using door locks from a ford car on the F-Truck. I think a '50. But I don't remember one of the young guys here sent them to me when he shaved his shoebox.

Another option is you could always use solonoids on the locks just like you would if you shaved it. Then just get your clicker out and shazaam you unlocked. You'd still always have the manual on the pass side for a backup.

You don't have to lock the driver's door from the passenger side. Just pull up on the handle before you close it. Then lock the passenger's door with a key on the outside. Don't -- repeat -- Don't pull up on the passenger's door handle to lock it and expect to unlock it later with the key. They're separate mechanisms.

Tackett, not as easy as installing a lock. I shaved my handles because someone drilled the little set screw boss to death. The one that holds the lock in place. It is welded in the door. Might be easier to get a deluxe 51-52 door? Couldn't fix mine!....OLDBEET
