I purchased a set of door seals for my 1962 Ford Fairlane 4-door from Mac's Auto Parts (part number ordered was C3OZ-5420530-ST), manufactured for Dennis Carpenter. Currently I have the doors off and have them prepped for the seals. I tried to dry-fit the door seals only to find that they are all TOO big. The part number on one of the seals is C20Z-7020570, but the part number found of the Dennis Carpenter site is C30Z-5420530-SET. I've never installed seals before and am wondering if they are supposed to be loose fitting. Does anyone have any experience with door seals or have had the same problem? I've tried to search the "C20Z-7020570" part number online but have gotten no where.

    Thanks!

Maybe a call to Dennis Carpenter could shed some light on your situation? Stu

  3. I had the same problem on my fairlane ones, I ended up finding an area that is inconspicuous cut, shortened and glued it back together, just make sure all the molded corners are where they are supped to be and the bottom door nuggets get pushed in. Also make sure you have the correct sides and if it's a four door make sure the you have the front in the front.

Thanks everyone for the information, as you can see Abe I posted on a couple of different Fairlane sites trying to find an answer! :D Here's the e-mail I received from Dennis Carpenter:

"The door seals you speak of are correct for your vehicle. The C2OZ number is on a premoulded section that is used with several applications. The seal must not be stretched. The length and fit have been checked and rechecked many times. Please review the instruction sheet enclosed with the seals."

I taped the seals onto the doors, trying to leave it a loose fit. But you'll see in the pictures that all the doors have the same issue, with excess seal inbetween the hinges. I think the best thing to do is to cut and shorten as neccessary. Another question - in a couple of years I am hoping to do the body on my 1962 Ford Fairlane and will be using the better doors off my 1962 Ford Fairlane parts car. So in a couple of years I would like to transfer the seals from my current doors to the better doors. I've been told to use a silicone sealer instead of a normal weatherstripping adhesive for ease of future removal. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!
    Tom

FYI - 1st and 2nd picture are of the passenger front door, 3rd picture is of the driver front door.
