I need some replacement door strickers for my 53 chevy. I have come across alot of places that sell the tri year strickers and a couple places that sell universal strickers but I wonder how well they'd work for me. I know there are alot of people here with 53 and 54 chevy's so I was wondering if any of you know of a good place to get some replacements or if you have used the universal, how well do they work?
Try the National Chevy****ociation, they prob have them. But why do I not know since I am a 54 owner? Because the stock latches*****! They are a ball and ramp design that works great when new but after 50 years of hinge/latch wear they just dont cut it. The first thing to do is repair any worn hinges or you will still have reoccuring problems, trust me, I have been there. I have worn out 2 sets of NOS strikers. As soon as I get some time for the 54 I am going to install modern latches such as Bearclaws or even a latemodel OEM donor latch. Did this on a couple 50s cars/trucks in the last year and you cannot believe how much of an improvement it is.
Here's a tip...next time you find a 4-dr in a junkyard, grab the ramp/striker thing from the rear doors. Same as the front, and never worn out! Brian
My lil Bro-[Scarliner] has some NOS ones- I dont know what kinds he has....ya might PM him-[hes gone] till tomorrow nite
