Borrow 10,000 cubic inches and fill the hollow model up. Then just count the cubes as they come out. Then divide.

Or do it the easy way: Use the P&G displacement finder. Simple.

Fill it up with water then empty the water into a container and WEIGH it that should give you the displacement after subtracting the weight of the container. Then go online and find the volume for that weight of water or do it in your head if you are a math wiz

  8. I tried that,
the cardboard got squishy and the tape wouldn't hold

  10. I'll think I'll stick with the math, it's just easier.
Now visually it can be deceiving, which is why I asked for a double check.
Here's a mock up of a 14 gallon tank on top of my 15-16 gallon tank.
Does it visually look like the steel tank might hold 2 gallons more than the cardboard mock up? Math says it will, then it will hold what the math says, providing the math is correct. Hence a double check on my math because my eyes say different. The other possibility is the cardboard mock up published info is incorrect. No need to prove that or investigate either.

Well I guess to double check your math give us the dimensions of your 14 gal mock up.

All this math talk is freakin me out. Make it fit, hydraulic integrity, put it in the car.
Now its history. History I can do.

  13. History is full of lies, written by the winners and shoved around to fit and fill holes at the whim of the author. Taught and perpetuated by those that don't know.

Math either is or is not.
    Math is truth.
    2+2 is alway 4

    Reality lesson on history.

When did US declare independence? 1776?

Who was the "first" president of the United States and when did he take office?
    George Washington 1789?

Let's try some math 1789-1776 is 13 years without a president- hummmm.

George Washington was the 8th president, not the first.

All you know is what your told and they lie.

Please leave Post-Modernism out of this. History is easier than math and that's why I like it. The pic of your 14 gallon tank on top of the Tank of Mystery - if you fold the tail of the bottom tan back under, it looks like the two are very close to the same size, (and since this will start more **** and keep this thread alive for years,) the same volume.

Much better. And burn some incence, just in case. But really, eyeballing the two tanks, I think your math is good.

How does a cup of soup contain the same amount of soup as a bowl of soup ? The big one sounded like a deal until you found out that they contain the same amount. Surprises are always just around the corner. But can you handle the lie you think you see, or just laugh about it ? I'm sure you'll get a big laugh when you finally fill it and see what all this guess work led to. Oh, did someone mention "incence" ! [IMG]

Many things, ie. bottles of chalk for framers string lines, bags of potato chips, etc, say contents may settle during shipping? By this logic you will gain fuel capacity as you drive...no?

I'd be careful putting gas in the cardboard tank, I'd tape it up some more.......

  23. It's the definer of " cup" and "bowl" that's full of ****!

    Here's my absolute favorite.
When I Call a new pizza shop.
Around here Different shops have different size pies that they call small med, large, extra large, family size and it seems Every shop sets their own definition. I think it's a conspiracy

Them- hello so&so pizza, will this be for pick up or delivery.
Me- delivery but I'm not sure what size to get, can you tell me how big your large pie is?
    Them- it's 8 slices.
Me - how big is it? Is your large a 12" pie or is that your medium ? How big is your large?
Them - The large is 8 slices sir
Me- did you know I can cut a house into 8 slices and you still won't know how big it is? What if I cut an elephant into 8 slices, how big is that? I can cut a rope into 8 pieces doesn't tell you how big it is.

"Every shop sets its own definition" - now you're getting into my territory. Postmodern pizza. I think I will file that sermon illustration for later use.

    Here's another approach Steve:
Make your mock up a little bit more sturdy out of 1/4 inch luan and some wood glue. You could also use sheet metal just tacked together. Then stuff a big 30 gallon leaf bag inside. Fill the leaf bag/tank mock up with water, one gallon at a time. Count each gallon. :)

LMAO ! Talk about believing what you see. "Double chech my gas tank math". Here's a proverb 31Vicky. "Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense."
