I can see the utility of learning it. Before I changed to a newer three speed, it was a major pain driving my car with non synchro first and column shifter.
At every stop sign I'd have to either crawl through in second, or come to a complete stop and wait a couple seconds to get it into first. It's surprising how annoying it is to actually come to a complete stop for a few seconds, even though that is really what a stop sign means.

Twice as annoying at traffic circles when you really don’t want to have to stop completely

That dude in the Mack truck, mastered the fine art of shifting with his arm through the steering wheel, most impressive!

The Chevy full synchro 3 speeds are as big as a 4 speed. Some have shifter mounts on the tail housing. The driveshaft yoke will be fine spline instead of co**** spline. Should bolt to the bellhousing ok, although there were some different varieties made for trucks that have threaded lower mounting holes where it meets the bellhousing, and those from 68 and later for trucks have a larger diameter "pilot" on the front, so you need to get the right bearing retainer, or turn it down in a lathe. But I don't know if you can get a shifter that's in the right place for the existing hole in the floor, etc.

I think it would be fun to keep the original three speed, just to have the honor of driving the only non synchro three speed corvette still in existence :)

I've driven a lot of different rigs in the past 60 years and have never been able to get a non syncro trans into low gear while the tires were turning. Double clutching is between the other gears but not into low. My full syncro Saginaw 3 speed in my 48 will shift down without an issue and slips into low while rolling easily. I sure can't do that with the SM465 in my 77. Maybe because the SM465 is in need of a rebuild especially having the shift tower rebuilt but there is no going into low if it is moving at all with that one.

Ha, yeah it's funny when I go to the town square, which always has people standing around, and it grinds softly but audibly into first or reverse. Vettes are refined automobiles..

I'll check out some full synchro 3 speeds in my travels, good for a spare anyway. Thanks for the info.
