    Haaa.... And your the banger guy!

    Soapman;

    the only thing that would salvage this design would be to weld a plate in the hole to connect the two " fingers"... Even then I don't nessesarily like it , but it would probably survive ...

    Good luck to you and your project

  2. I'll admit I am using stock model A rear suspension besides the spring. But I have a torque tube...a stock Model A with a built banget is a different beast, than a open drive split wishbone hot rod.

  3. A good structural design practice; a bolted connection reaches ultimate load both the bolt and the lug should NOT suffer catastrophic failure. Failure s/b hole elongation (bearing failure), bolt bending failure etc. In other words the joint should remain connected. Remember better is the enemy of "good enough"

    However, the hidden enemy here is metal fatigue. I would be more concern on keeping the stress of the design loads well below the material allowable yield stress. For example holes, notches, sharp corners, etc act as amplifiers. They are called stress concentration factors. These factors can increase the local stress 3 fold.

    take all that math and theory and add a little wheel hop and it won't matter how skinny your tires are the weak link will break...

    Wow....I did not mean to create such a shit storm. I thought the welds to the axel housing would be the weak link, so ..more area stronger connection. There is presidance as I have seen this set up on a T with a v8 and a roll bar, means nothing but I really liked the look and it worked for him. Does not make it right but....... It was either at LARS or GNRS....I think it was a blue with flames T with a rollbar.
    Thank you all, Mr Spadaro, Hitchhiker, thirtytwo, a good discussion.
    Any ideas on a change? Thanks again, Sman.
