get used to it. i get one of those atleast once a month.

  2. I'm a home owner too and people NEED to mind their own F*****G business. Mine are under covers, but I'll worry about my yard and you worry about yours. Some people move into a neighborhood, filled with $100k houses with old cars, and build a $500k house. Then they bitch about the neighbor that was there before they were. It's not our fault when they move in, pay more for their house than it is worth and then gripe about the house prices going down because of the neighborhood image. If I could afford a garage I would have one, but I don't. A 1200 square foot rambler goes for 350K, in our area, with no garage. The only one that deserves a black eye is a nosy neighbor.

Consider it a challenge....you got 10 days to get your car done!!
Seriously, ask for the hearing. That'll prob be about 30 days out, bring in your bill of sale for the parts car showing that you just bought it from out of state the day before. Hopefully at the hearing the source of the complaint will be made public. The city will need to back up their complaint. Then you can find out if it was the neighbor, or if the inspector was just passing by and got a bug up his butt.

So you junked YOUR 55 Olds, which was my 55 Olds, worked on YOUR pickups drivetrain, and your near identical pickup got junked so its drivetrain could go into MY 55 Olds.

Man if that aint full circle recycling I dont know what is!! :) I never stopped to realize how wierd that was haha, 2 55 Oldsmobiles and 2 196x Chevy pickups haha.

Yeah this has been covered a bunch before, I have been in hot water (and I think Tman has been living in the hills too long) and would say most guys here have been in similar situations. Id love to live somewhere with more property where the town wouldnt bother me, but with that comes piney wierdo neighbors, a 30 minute drive to the food store or (gasp) Starbucks (Im a city boy) No thanx. Ill deal wiht the crap to stay where I am.

There might have been something with this neighbor in your past. Easter is a family day, I never usually work on something outside on a holiday as a rule, never leaves a good taste in the neighbors mouthes. There might be other cars in question that have angered this neighbor before.

Do you know who it is? Might be worth going over there, talking face to face. Explain the situation, and how you dont want to infringe on thier lives with it, but see if you can meet halfway.

That and keep the outside of your place clean and neat. Mine has a 51 Merc under a car cover, and a nose of another Merc on the side of my house under a cover. I really try to keep it neat as I did have problems with the neighbors. Now? Not an issue.

N.C. is the same way. You could put a liscence plate on it and register it and leave it in your front yard to piss off the neighbors, Hey look at my new car!:D

First get all your stuff straightened out...., then go passive agressive on those neighbors.
Get some 70's POS, make it all legal for texas, and then proceed to dent and paint every panel on it. make it the ugliest eyesore ever, and park it as close to your neighbors house as you can.
After you have had your fun, I would look for a garage, or a house in the country.

  8. Man if the'yre THAT pissed about an old ride on a trailer being "offensive" what do they consider gangs, narcs, filthy front yards and messy/untidily kept homes in the neighbourhood?

What a bunch of fuckin' wankers....polkitical correctness gone fuckin stupid.

Im waiting for this to happen to me. I have 2 cars out on the back driveway. I lived in the country until about 10 years ago..they have been putting up houses in farm fields around here like mad. I got one neighbor that has broken down old rusting into the ground cars. Im sure when it goes down he will be tapped first. Or his cars will be the pictures i take to save mine.

apply for the hearing will giver you at least thirty days get it off the trailer try to cover it clean eveerything up around the house make it as inconspicous as possible. going into ther hearing gripping about everyone else doesn't always work as you are on trial not your neighbors. and what happens if you rat someone out and they had nothing to do with it .just starts a whole nother boatload of trouble. i just finished a 4 yr battle with a neighbor from hell(even the police dept and govenor he wrote to agreed it was ridicoulous). try to be as reasonable as possiuble and try not to piss off the city as it can be an ongoing battle

...It's not your neighbors...it's you. Did you even think about what you were doing? Are you trying to get in trouble? All you needed to do was keep your junk outta sight....one in the garage with the door closed and one in the driveway...tightly covered under a respectable car cover....tight enough that an inspector can't lift it to check for plates...if he does force the cover, that's unlawful search. (I've used this method to keep a car in my driveway for 18 months without a problem...and this is in a city that tickets for parking on your own grass.)

Now you have a mess with the authorities, and it's gonna cause you expensive problems. I love old cars, motorcycles and rusty stuff too....but if you start a junkyard next door to me, I'll be the first one to complain....and rightfully so. You are the bad neighbor....that's a fact. No sympathy here, cause your methods hurt all of us packrats.

dude i dont see you as the problem..as you stated..you just got the car home. jeasus give the guy a chance to part it out or put it away. you gotta break some eggs to make an ommlet..buy your self some time, and tend to the parts car before it gets ugly and all will be happy.

....one POS in the driveway temporarily is something most neighbors will go along with....but two is asking for it....as he just found out. And tell me why the project car wasn't in the garage???....working on it in the driveway?.....grinding rust at ten p.m.???......c'mon man...tell the WHOLE STORY before whining about the neighbors that haven't complained about your driveway project that's been sitting outside for how long?? I'd like to hear their side....How about posting some pics of the driveway, and yard so we can see what kind of a neighbor this "hotrodder" is.

luckly all my neighbors are drug dealers... and half of their houses are falling apart / look abandoned... i doubt that they would waist their breath complaining about lil' ol' me! :D

And therein lies the problem. I am lucky to live in a great neighborhood. Great because I know most of my neighbors and we respect and look out for one another. The examples I could come up with are endless.

    I fully share hatch's opinion..

...thanks Kevin....we just moved into a new house this month. Before we moved, I came to the neighborhood and met all my potential new neighbors....nice bunch, and I feel right at home. I've got new neighbors...new friends.

Where I live they get tagged and dragged really fast, so I hide everything in the back yard under tarps or in the garage. I also tend to move things at night or during the day when no one is home. My '64 Merc isn't too close to running, but it's tagged, insured, and hidden in my garage. As a rule of thumb, I always keep my projects hidden or covered.

I have the Chassis in the garage now getting rebuilt and the body is neatly in the driveway on jack stands and the other car is parked right next to it in an orderly fashion. My yard is clean and I try not to bother anyone. I considered puttin covers over them but I didn't think that it was that big of a deal. Guess I was wrong. I try to be a good neighbor. I am not the one to cause problems. I just wanna build my car at my own house that I pay taxes on in peace. Its not like I have shit strewn about all over the yard with loud music blaring. I clean up after myself and try to make everything look presentable. I guess old cars are just unacceptable these days.

I had the same problem in Illinois. I have since moved to the country.
However, in my old town there is a clause about antique cars. They are exempt from the tag and drag as long as there is some kind of progress on them. Might want to visit those town meetings every once and awhile. You could try to make a case and get the rules changed.

It saved my truck while I found a new place to live.
A privacy fence would have worked just as well. If they can't see it under normal conditions they can't complain.

Neighbors suck, but until you can move away from people you have to deal with them.

  24. Where i live there are no regs yet. but i can see it coming. My nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile away but we are located on a busy hwy intersection. One guy says he cant sell his property because people have to drive past our place on the way and i have lowered property values. When every one else in the county crushes their stuff and we are the only ones left. Im sure the county officials will pass some ordance aimed at us. We have one ace in the hole our eldest son will be finished with law school in 1 year a lot of these treasures are his. I have been looking at a former chicken farm i wonder how many cars we can cram into those big buldings. OldWolf

tarp anything with wheels....covered all the way to the concrete....neatly wrapped with no sign of it being a car. It may be too late, but in the future, give it a shot. First they have to prove it's a car....not just a lump with a blue cover.....then they have to prove its immobile and unlicensed, and they can't come in your yard and make you remove the cover to check without a warrant. I've never seen an ordinance that reads ....not allowed...."unknown obect covered with tarp"
