Let me tell you a little bit about Doug... I truly love this guy. In my mind, we are brothers and I know this because we never see eye to eye. In fact, I'm pretty sure we have never agreed on anything, at least as far as "traditional" hot rods go (he has proven me wrong on every account...White '34 coupe , Blue '29 roadster, Gold '34 roadster etc...).

When I was thinking about building my car, I showed him a picture of Nimrods car and said, "That is the car I want." He said, "It's a cool car, but make it your own. Make it your roadster, not someone else's." (I'm still shooting for Nimrods car)

He not only has an eye for our hobby, but more importantly, a heart for it, like no other I have met. In his life, he has accumulated the accolades that only few can dream of. Yet, when you meet him he is so down to earth and really, truly, wants to help you and pass along what he knows, so you can do it yourself. Some have never heard of Doug or Squeegs Kustoms, which is the way he prefers it. It's not about him, its about the people and the cars.

I have had the pleasure of meeting a lot of people in our hobby, and they are all great... but the first time I met Doug was not what I expected (in a good way).
I walked into his shop, every door was open. Doug came right up to me, asked how I was doing and if I liked hotrods. He walked me around and talked about each of the projects they were working on. I told him I was trying to build a roadster and shared what I was trying to do. He then sat down with me and showed me how to achieve what my end-goal was. He literally spent and hour+ with me. That was the start of a brotherhood that still grows today.

So, with this post, I'm only sharing my personal feelings... but we have been given a 2nd chance here to spend some more time with this great builder/ hotrodder. He truly is one of us.
Take the time time to get to know him, as we are so lucky to still have him today!

...he's going to be pissed if he ever sees this, I guarantee it. But fuck him, I love him anyway.

    Tom

P.S. You do not have to bid or give, but if you know him or appreciate his work let him know!

    Thank you HAMBers!

Sad deal, he's pretty young, and I hope he pulls through. When I saw his 34 coupe for sale a few years back I wanted that car so bad.

I'd say that along with giving a contribution Levi got a bargain on the drawing.

Squeegs was working on that beautiful yellow 32 5w. I needed some pics of a 32 5w for my project. He allowed me to come over and was nothing but nice to me the whole time I was there.

Wow, he's not very old. He is a super nice guy. I talked to him on the phone a while back. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

Doug has been home since Saturday and is continuing to make progress!! This is still going to be a long journey for him but he's staying positive!!! Of course Doug, in typical Doug fashion, had to start up his sand rail thing within hours of getting home!!! Biggest smile on his face since his heart attack!! Yep, he's a car guy through and through!!

RUN DOUG RUN, No wait, don't run,,,, take it nice and E Z ...

  20. Thank you for the updates on how he is doing. I wanted to go see him in the hospital but I hate those places. Last time we hung out we talked about our vw days as kids. Best road trip with him was the Sedona run last year and dinner at the cowboy restaurant. I don't think Doug is allowed back there but totally worth it.

Just found this, best wishes for a recovery. It always blows my mind as a Canadian when one of my American friends has to sell everything off due to a health issue. A few years ago, a buddy of mine needed knee surgury, had to sell off a W-30 442 he had for decades just to pay the bills.:(

Squeeg's to me has always been some mythical place in the east valley guys like Rick Stewart or Jimmy Smith would occasionally mention where the higher end stuff got built. Never really had a face to go with it or really knew what came out of there other than old 60s magazine articles on Dougs Dad's '32.

Well wishes to what sounds like a really good guy and builder of some neat rides.
