I was planning on having Mr.Jim Sibley spray my pickup Ford Dove grey with the black vinyl roof. A couple buddy's of mine are trying to get me to go with a silver? I think the Dove grey should look sharp? I have cast finish Torque Thrusts for the front and back so I thought it might be too much grey???
My '34 was repainted with PPG dove grey (base/clear) this spring. I've had a couple of neighbors ask me "what color are you going to paint it?" My response...."it IS painted!" Jim
The dove gray has a little tan in it I think, and is a nice color. Solids are hot roddy, metalics are more street roddy? JMO Frank
I once had a '56 VW sunroof Bug painted Dove Grey for my wife, it was beautiful. Never thought that a light grey color like that would look that good.
Very cool color, but IMHO you have to respect it for what it is. If you want it to look finished and shiny, well, it's easily overwhelmed by alot of contrast- that is: chrome or black. It's a subtle color, and subtle contrast works better with it. Otherwise, it just lays there- kinda like primer.
Putting on my Mr. Safety Hat... light grays (and silvers) are often hard to see in the fog, and at dusk or dawn as they tend to be the same "non-color" as faded ashphalt or concrete roads. But I still like light colors on cars. Will your truck have some big, bright, highly visible tail lights? As for me, I plan on going with something with a little more pop. I like a light but still bright orange I've been seeing on some new Nissan Z cars... it isn't a utiltiy truck orange but more of a pastel orange (about the same value as light gray) that reminds me of a cream-sickle orange. Or perhaps a light yellow in the same value. Heck, even one of the new fire truck lime-yellows would look good - and certainly get your attention! That one is in my play-book, too. Later, Gary
He's Canadian, that's how the "Colour" "Grey" is spelled here. TMARACING, if you do paint grey,at least have a bit of contrasting subtle pinstriping,to break it up and differentiate the finish from primer.
This is dove grey and it looks good with the maroon frame. That 34 five window is a little darker/warmer. I like it alot better than Ford Dove grey.
my 32 roadster frame and under body and firewall are Kirker oxford gray single stage with clear. the red is viper red from Kirker also.. The body is still in hi fill primer ..... Dave
I just bought a '34 P/U from Jim Sibley myself! He had a reddish primer on it and if I ever get the doors to work and the holes welded shut to keep out the snakes around here,LOL, I will then paint the Cab, Bed and rad shell with Dura-Bak roll-on bed liner. If you roll it on thick enough you won't need body work,LOL, it comes in many colors (yes, dove gray too).
56 Ford platinum gray. code H. Don't go by the color chip in the book. It's a beautiful subtle color that everybody comments about. It's not battle ship gray like so many of the grays. I'm partial because my 56 2dr is this color. It always looks so clean and bight not dull and drab. I think getting the right color on my hotrod is the hardest thing for me to do. I know what I want in my head but getting the right mix has always been a problem.
