i had a 49 chevy truck painted a the same color. It is a great color it just needs some more, like silver scallops, other wise it is just too much Gray. But with the smaller body of your truck it might look pretty nice. GO FOR IT! you can always add to it.
In a sea of red and bright colored cars, a color like the dove gray stands out to me. I also think that using a wheel color like red, orange, or apple green shines as bright as chrome in contrast to the body color. I think gray also makes the engine stand out more on a hoodless or fenderless car. I'm going to use a gray like y'all are talking about with an orange engine and wheels.
I really like the gray of the 617 '34. I don't know that dove gray fits the style of your motor. Here's Back Seat Betty in silver.
yeah! i think you should hop back on the tube asap!!! i think im nore confused then ever on this now!!!! ya have any extra glue?????
Yep. Many, many years ago (before primer was a popular "color") a guy in our car club painted his '37 Ford gray and the same thing happened, he was constantly asked "what color.." or "when are you going to paint your car?" I agree, it's a good looking color but just be ready for the questions.
Yeah, somebody did actually by mentioning ford folkstone gray from 1939, or french gray from 1931, but didnt make a big deal of it. I whole heartedly agree as well, and its worth quoting again. Old VW and Ford colors look great for 40's and 50's style hot rods.
Here's a couple pictures of my 29 to give you some ideas (medium gray metallic and black vinyl roof).
I was pretty much a Chevy guy and had new cars in the 70's, 71 El Camino, 72 Camaro, 74 Monte Carlo. When I saw the 77 Thunderbird, dove gray I had to have one. That was a popular color for Fords that year.
You guys sound like a bunch of women picking out d****s. And tmacracin, why are you asking other people what color you should paint your car. For a minute I thought I was on some Hollywood web site instead of H.A.M.B.
Great! The paint on the Model A is an old acylic enamel job that was on it when I bought it as a bone stocker before I did the AV8 conversion. My buddy who does my paint and coach work buffed it out a couple of weeks ago and says it is very close to Ford Dark Shadow Gray (paint code CX).
Does anyone have a part number or a paint code for Dove Grey, as my local paint store cannot find it. A year would also help.
Must be close to my 18% grey card..(photography speak).. funny thing is darn near same shade color or B/W.. Good luck !! -41-
Go for it Dove Gray and other subtle not in your face colors work well with traditional builds, it encourages the informed to look further at the work put into the build, without appearing too showy which to me is again another style of build
Yes what he said!!! The real deal Ford Dove Grey is the next best color to black. That said there are only two colors for a hot rod "Black and ugly." But I think that Dove grey is the exception to the rule. Just my $.02
old thread, yes. but, good subject. 1976-178 Ford/mercury had Dove Gray, 1981 Light Dove Gray, 1959 Edsel Platinum Gray, (paintref.com)
