Reunion update...Could be the last one IF new location Not found. Here's the deal ...for 18 years the two guys that put It together, had a great relationship with Marcus Dairy...running a Sat. Cruise Night and the Reunions.Ther'e going to tear down the place ,leaving the Reunion in limbther area sites all too expensive and restrictive in town (Danbury,Ct) So NEED some help to find NEW location. Maybe a little closer to Original Track site as latest owner of old track property dosn't want anything to do with the idea. So you guys in Putnam and Duchess county (N.Y )or even in Conn. (North of Danbury) could help us find a new spot. IN Wingdale,N.Y. itself would be perfect! Contact Mark Mastriani...ph.# a few posts back.
NITROFC: Thats the "Dover Tribute Gasser"...were you at Marcus Sat.? Dover News & Notes NEW REUNION INFO NUMBER Call: "Grover"-- 203-746-375
This is Ron Abbatt's Famous "Hellzapoppin" AA/GD .Gave Don Garlits a run for his money at the '63 Indy Nationals. In Final round lost by mere inches to "Big Daddy". Was a frequent competitor at Dover Drag Strip. Rumor has it ,Ron still has it in a warehouse in Albany. Would be a real treat, if it showed up at the Reunion...Aug. 31 first in Danbury,Ct. ....Any Albany guys know Ron or the cars where-abouts ?
That car was at a show in Lebanon Valley 10-12 years ago. SCARY steering linkage!!! All 3/8 drive Snap-On extentions and universal joints, then again it only raced in a straight line. I've got 8x10 glossies of it injected and blown. Sure it ran side by side with Alley Oop, that is a photo I'd like to have.
The 1933 Mercury..................you know Chevrolet marketed a Mercury before Ford did sure looks like the Boccuzzi car out of Stamford, Ct. His son Ted has the car now.
Still looking for Old 8mm or VHS footage From Dover Drag Strip for Our "Big Video" Dover History documentary...7 videos to view Now on the site and... looking for Wild Bill Flynn's autograph ? need to match something for authenticity. Also need Match Race photos and Does anybody have old DRAG TIMES or Eastern Drag News with Dover Results Stories and Articles. Looking for things to archive before they become unavailable.
I met Doc Burgess quite by accident a number of years ago while showing my race car art at a car show in Winston-Salem, NC. He was there running in the tractor pull event. At the time he lived in NC. He said that the Black Arrow was junked. Joel
The first of a few pictures from Dover in 1966. These were taken at a meet when circuit racers running a few S/S Spectacular series events in the northeast were at Dover. The first is Al Oakes' Nova. I don't recall if it was a Z-11 or a 396-427 in the car at the time. I posted these over on the Stock-S/S-F/X thread and Storm King suggested I post them here. Joel www.JFNStudios.net
Billy McDuell's '64 Comet at the 1966 S/S Spectacular at Dover. This car was out of DE and was an original '64 DST/factory built 427 hi-riser A/FX car. Still running the wedge hi-riser here. Joel
This is another at the 1966 S/S-F/X meet at Dover ... a neat little, and strong running Z-11 powered Nova, 4-speed of course. I never saw this car again and would love to learn more about who it was, where from, about the car etc. Apologies for the poor focus. Joel
Last one for now ... 1966, the Sopwith Camel again, this time launching off the line. The car was built much like a Thunderbolt. Joel
As I recall this gasser of Bobby Lagana's had the battery mounted high above the trunk/bumper for weight transfer ... the strangest setup! Joel

The elder Ted Boccuzzi (my cousin) gave me a ride in that 33 coupe when I was 14. I never forgot that solid lifter small block. His son does still have the car and has a shop in New Milford, Ct.
Teddy's on our Forum and I remember him bringing the car all the time to the Sycamore Drive-in ,Bethel,Ct. Summer Cruises in the 80's. That Car NEEDS to be on dislpay with all the rest of the Dover originals ,at our 3rd annual Nostalgia Drags in Aug. at Lebanon Valley. Don Gallant said he'd show with the 'Gold Rush' roadster he still has, that was at Dover ,opening Day.
Docs son works for the truck team for dale earnhart inc. he raced accord speedway with the 55 chevy and the camaro and various tracks as a modified driver.
