GT classes were as follows: GT-1 Big block with multi carbs; GT-2 big blocks with single 4 barrell, or small block with multi carbs; and GT-3, small blocks only with single 4 barrell. Several regional cars were built to these specs to compete at Lions exclusivley. Once ot twicew a year, a big AHRA race would draw several east coast heavy hitters like the Kimbal Bros, et al. It was a good, simple formula that leant to some nice heads up racing.

Love the Pro-stock but I don't think it's going to go over very well on a pre 65 site

Rick, I want to make a comparison statement about Stepps car in #31616 and the Instant T in 31612.
If you'll notice, both have product decals visibly pasted on them. Back in the late 60's, the Mooneyes were a novelty decal and the owner was proud of the fact he had Jahn's pistons and read Drag News as seen on the firewall of Instant T.
Now compare that to the 71' or 72' shot where it is quickly becoming impossible to see what color the front fender of Stepp's Duster is, and not necessarily because all those mfg's parts were in that car, but rather because on the national exposure level it had become necessary to bill board a car in order to stay in good 'Graces' with sanctioning organizations sponsors as well as get the major bucks required to make all the races and stay points competitive.
Just a thought the next time you find yourself wondering how racing got so out of hand for so many people. Tom S. in Tn.

    Let me go one further.
Compare the colorful stickers on the Duster in #31616 to the hand lettered product display on Hubert Platt's Pro Stock fore runner seen in #31611, only a few years before, who was syndicating his ride as well.
Think of what changed at the sanctioning organization and event promotional levels and why.

You're preaching to the choir Tom....I was in the middle of it from '71 through '85. You'll never find me "wondering how racing got out of hand for so many people." But......contingency money sure helped us during some lean times, so I'm on both sides of the fence on that issue.:)

I wanted to raise that issue before the inappropriate photo disappeared into the photo abyss in this discussion board. Tom

So...I'm zoning out staring at Ol' George here, and I catch myself thinking how rare are those 4-window rear wheels? (yeah...I know the mind is a terrible thing to waste).
