    Fogs, you are indeed correct, but wondered if this shot came after we sold in in early 70's...but probably not as it would have had a lot more bleachers, light poles, etc. Thanks! Eric

    I ran into Hubert Platt this past weekend at the Henderson NC East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame show. He was with Howard Neil and his clone of Hubert's Georgia Shaker A/FX Falcon. They were in the Walmart parking lot getting the car ready for the show. He cranked it up during the show on saturday and it sounded great.

    Beat me to it., I guess that is why Hubert wasn't at the Atlanta 10,000 renewal at Commerce.

    Replying to post #33835,Hubert had a 38 Chevrolet coupe A gasser in late 1961. It had the name "Little General" on the deck lid.

    The "Strip Teaser" was owned by Bob Thomas and driven by the late Howard Neal. The Strip Teaser wasn't one of Hubert's cars although he did drive it once to see the difference between his cars and the Strip Teaser. There is a photo somewhere (I can't seem to find it right now) of Howard standing beside the Strip Teaser as it is staging off on a run, Hubert is in the car on that run.

    This is the Strip Teaser running Hubert in the Georgia Shaker. I don't know whose photo this but I think I got it from Sol Stewart.

  16. Some years after Harry sold the '32, a new owner used the body to build a street rod using a new repro chassis turning it into just another 1-800 billet street rod.
    I suspect the original frame and the "race" bits were sold off.

    I like the coined phrase "1-800 billet street rod." And the depiction of the two errant AA/FA's above it is truly like sitting back and being at Irwindale again.

    The car is currently at the Petersen Museum, West LA, (in a storage room) according to one of the Museum Administrators that I spoke with Tues Oct 23,2012.

    In 1959-60 I saw the car at the Texaco Gas station across the street from where I lived. It belonged to the Stubbins Racing Team (Father Bill "Stubbie" & Son Howard). They bought it as a "lakester" and rebuilt it for the drags. I still have an 8x10 glossy photo of it that "Stubbie" gave me taken in the same parking lot as the HRM photos.(see Hot Rod Mag Jun '60 article). It was/is a great looking (very quick) '34...



    Of course I'm partial to '34s...my Father built a sweet custom one in the 40's, & my Dad and I rebuilt one together in 2006. I still have it

    license tells it all...

    lic plate= "5wincoup"... plate frame reads "34 Ford...kinda like dads".

    Blown fuel V-8's planted mere inches from them and they are wearing little more than a helmit and wind breaker. Oh those were the days.

    It looks like Hilborn 4 hole "Bug Catcher" type injectors were popular in this class, didn't the "Dodge Chargers" use them as well.

    Yes they did. Those cars weren't very successful as they were pretty much stock cars with a blower on a max wedge. Christman came out with the blown Comet that was a real race car, and Ddoge wouldn't let them run if Christman showed up. Pansies! Of course Gary Dyer, Mr. Norm's driver, was a blower specialist, and ran a supercharger shop for many years. He may still for all I know.

    Ah yes the Coke Circuit. A lot of history and tales with that group. Someone should write a book someday.
