  2. I guess there can be different interpetations of the word 'sucess'. Arnie Beswick made a fortune and had unlimited match race bookings with that car. Based on that, it is one of the most successful race cars of all time.

  3. What a great photograph! Thanks for the contribution. It's one of the best posted here in some time.

He was making reference to the Mopar backed Dodge Chargers, not Beswick. The girthy, gas burning Chargers were no match for cars the likes of Beswick, Norm Krause, Chrisman.

  5. i aggree about the pic thanks,

is this mr norms dodge that became "spartacus"? and has now been restored to the way it looks in this pic?

  6. From what i gather the Mr Norns car that became Spartacus was the super stock dodge driven by Pat Minic, not the sfx-1 pictured above, driven by Gary Dyer. I don't think any of the altered wheelbase cars of Grand Spaulding Dodge have surfaced. Anyway, I think this is a pic of before and after restoration.

Look out "KIDS" Mr. Snow is in the house. Note above Snow we find Dyer and Krauss again battling with their old foe, Arnie Beswick who can be seen in the background.

Didn't Kelly Chadwick build the "RAMBUNCTIOUS" DART? For some reason that is stuck in my head. I know he built a dart, but I don't remember which one.

I was talking to Arnie Beswick about Mr.Norm at a car show a couple years back. He had one of the guys with him get out a picture of an old Dodge Arnie had placed on top of a manure spreader and it was all lettered up with spray bombs as one of Norms car's. I sure wish he would of had extra copies of that picture for sale.

I don't think so. I think most of Kelly Chadwick's cars were built by Don Hardy (I think they were partners). They were both from a little town named Floydada, outside of Lubbock, Texas. I don't think I ever saw Kelly Chadwick in a Mopar product. He raced Chevys.

T-Bar chassis built some of Snows cars when they were still in Amarillo. The owners split and T-Bar moved to Dallas and Dukes Welding stayed in Amarillo.

One of the owners of T-Bar Chassis moved to Oregon in the early 70's, he brought along a tig welder, chassis jig, rearend fixtures and sold them to a racer named Jerry Hill, who started a business and built great cars here for many years.

This was originally the "Color Me Gone" car before Mr Norm bought it. Igys Muffler shop was on Grand Ave. not far from Grand Spaulding and they built headers for the first big block Dart conversion in 67 as well as some others.

Nothing against you WCD, but I wish someday this will all go away so i don't have to be reminded of such behavior by an individual.

Heres the 2nd paint scheme sitting in the back of the Grand Spaulding shop next to the 68 Funny Car. There's speculation that Gary Dyer still owns this car.

And then there's this one. Mr Norm bought this from Butch Leal and Dyer hauled it back to Chicago. Shop mechanic Rich Moudry took it to the southside one night for some street racing. He lost control and went over the dike and landed in a tree next to the Calumet River. The cops jokingly told Norm "They must of dropped it from a plane as there was a parachute attached to it"

Now thats a "Drag Car in Motion"

Mr Norm said they stripped the car of the Hemi and ny usable parts and scrapped the rest.

Again, there's rumors that Gary Dyer still has the wrecked body shell.

Here's a cool shot from November of 65 at Lions when Dyer ran a recoed setting 8.63 e.t.

Norm spreading the Rosin and the aformentioned Rich Moudry on the right side of the car.

Here's the fate of this car at US 131 Dragway in Martin, Mich. Mr Norm claims they never ran injectors and always had a blower which would stand to reason with Dyer in command. But he also said that this car was wrecked at 131 by a driver filling in for Dyer and then they bought the Color Me Gone car.

There is a rumor of 2 65 sedan AWB cars.................Who knows!

When Dyer built the 66/67 Charger Funny Car they sold the 65 car. In some of the old Grand Spaulding magazine ads they list it for sale. It was sold to a guy named Chris Farley (Not the Comedian) down south in Alabama I believe. Mr Farley was unable to pay it off so Norm repoed it and then they painted it to match the Charger and both cars toured together for awhile.

Here it is at Phenix City, Alabama

I understand your point. But the reason it is often referred to is that referencing serves as a reminder that those who acted on their deepest "proclivities" continue to earn as much castigation as can be be levied through the written word. His racing accomplishments are note worthy, so much so that they may take the fore front of discussion aiding and abeting in the masking or concealment of his remissions. I will leave it at that. For what its worth, he ONCE served as one of my favorite racers. I cheered him on may times when he ventured out west. But that was a long time ago, and I was young, and naive. Now, where are those altereds someone promised to post.

WCD, getting back to Altereds I have a quest to find the old Stone T of Mikio Yoshioka and Frank Graf. Mikio told me that he sold the car to someone in Half Moon Bay Ca. The car then went to someone in Mentone Ca. Mikio heared that it went then to Oklahoma and nothing since then. The guy from Mentone put a small block chevy in it as far as Mikion remembers. Yesterday I found one of my many quests I have left in this life and some pictures below. If it wasn't for the Hamb Board folks not sure I would have found it...Enjoy the moments I caught on pixels ( can't say film anymore).

The red 33 is more than likely Eddie Sanzo's car. If you look real close, you can see the start of the AA/G lettering behind the door. Plus, Knutsen's car was from Arizona. It's unlikely he made it back East to run with Paul Frost from Ohio. Here's some more shots of Sanzo's car. It's reported to be the Willie's Willys car that used to run quite a bit at the nostalgia drags.

This is the Hawkins and Webster fuel coupe right? Never saw it in real life, but it ran as late as 1967 or so at Irwindale. As for the Stone T which one are you refering to, the original injected class car or the later blown version? Both were very cool and very fast.

Yea seeing the 15OZ coupe was a real thrill. Havent seen it since the 60's and to get up close and personal was a treat.

You know i'm goning to have to ask Mikio about the differance between the blown and unblown car. I do believe that it's the same car. Just got off the phone and Mikio and he said they were the same car. So anyone with info please let me know. Would like to surprise him. More than likey the car has been gone for sometime, but one nevers know. So hopefully the fingers and unlimited knowledge of the HAMB will do another miracle...

Well I wasnt the owner of the car, but the injected car and the blown version seemed to feature a completley different chassis. I also seem to recall that the injected model was sold to a team called Cox and Ford who ran an injected nitro SBC in 1970.

Larry T, I found the article about the Rambunctiuos Dart. Kelly Chadwick and Don Hardy built that one at Race Car Engineering. The article about the Dart is in the September 1966 issue of DRAG RACING.
