Wow, some real beautiful shots of the final competitive years for FED top fuelers.

Thanks, Rick, great shots (rare shot of Butters & Girard, they were regulars at San Gabriel with a flathead 3-window deuce coupe in the late '50s, sponsored by Groh's Texaco, they lasted a while into the late FED days)

Ok, not your usual drag car in motion, but it is in motion:

Hank Griffith's 42 Ford custom at Saugus, from a 1951 Hop Up. Hank was from Pasadena, bought the car in '46, took it to the Alaya Brothers and gave it the full treatment, including Cad rear fenders. Since Gil Alaya drag raced his customs, he apparently talked Hank into running at Saugus:

More from Oilstick, great site...captioned as "Jim Sumner," but I think it is "Slim Sumner" who started with this early Ford with a fuel Chrysler, then went on to the Fiat competition coupe with Burt and Mews...think that this picture was taken at San Luis Obispo:

The "inch pincher"...these things sounded like angry bumble bees, but they went pretty well for little motors:
