  4. Jack Lufkin's one piece body Corvette. The frame was salvaged from the Corvette that Dave McDonald flipped and burned to the ground at a Riverside road race. Frank Kurtis front halfed the chassis and fitted one of his straight axles with cross torsion bars. Jack ran a 301" Chevy and got in the 200MPH club at Bonneville with this car. This picture was taken after Doug Thorley bought the car and went drag racing with it.

  10. Some really nice shots of the Willys before Doug Cook became the driver/mechanic. Love the shot of Tim Woods polishing the wheels!

  11. The Maalicoat Bros. are still racing. Lastest Cuda is twin turboed and runs some of the Pro Mod/ Pro Street races on the west coast.

Yes, I remember it because I always wondered about the heroin connection.

  16. Is this the '67 Mustang sitting on a dragster frame? It surfaced about 15 years ago and I don't remember if it was ever identified or any history unearthed. I almost bought it back in 2000 but had too few bucks and one too many wife to make the deal go down. I'll hunt for the pictures I have later today.

  18. When Lufkin owned this car, it was also the very first car that Dennis Jones ever lettered with gold leaf. The second car he ever gild leafed was his brother Bobby Jones & Stan Johnsons "555" 55 Chevy which Dennis now owns. I beleive at the time, Bobby was working for Jack Lufkin, and that's were the connection is.

  21. Denny also drove the car at Bonneville. I can't remember if he got in the 2 club, or not. The car was entered under "Lufkin & Jones". A lot of high school kids hung around Ak Miller's garage whereJjack was the shop manager. Quite a few of those kids wound up working at the garage. Poor jack isn't doing well. He had a couple of debilitating strokes, and is in a full time care facility. Doesn't know anyone who comes to see him.
