History Drag cars in motion.......picture thread.

Tommy, thanks for posting...some really historical cars here...yellow dragster is Bob Noice in the Accessories Ltd. car out of Glendale...the Scotty's T now is running a blower on the Ardun, and behind it is the Brammer, Burns, and Burkhart roadster. This roadster ran a front mounted blown Desoto, and was a regular record breaker. Mike Burns drove, worked the counter at Weiands, Everett "Hippo" Brammer worked in an aquarium factory...Mike Burkhard was maybe 6'7" or so... it was retired and loaned its body to the Sadd, Teague, and Bentley lakes roadster after its '29 body was destroyed in a Bonneville return road accident.

 

Maurice Richter in the Nesbitt's Orange Special fuel Chrysler at Colton, around '56. This was a well built car that got the sponsorship of a (then) major beverage company.


Another shot of Arnold Birkey's fuel roadster...probably Half Moon Bay or Vacaville...back then fuel roadsters were designated "hot" roadsters, thus the AH on the car.


Ted Cyr in the near lane, no ID in the other...looks like Beeline, perhaps? Ted won the '58 NHRA Nationals with this car, which he took back to sell. When he lost with his newer blown TE-440, he unloaded this one and won the race!


Westerberg & Bill, looks like Riverside?


Jack Chrisman in a later Sidewinder racing Chrisman and Cannon Hustler II, Riverside, very early '60s. No guard rails, as was the case with most tracks then; at Riverside you could spectate right at the edge of the drag strip.


I forgot who these racers were, probably mid-50s...The track looks like Vacaville, long since gone. Note the roadster in the far lane is running mag wheels, pretty rare then...


Boyd Penington, Pomona, early to mid-50s

 

Anybody recognize this one? Wild and Wooly on the sides, Hayden Coolers on front fenders, and Valley Head Service on hood. Bob Woolbrite from Riverside, CA? Tanaka chassis? Was sold to Jim White and Leon Gearhart and raced with an injected SBC out of Jonesboro, Arkansas during mid 70s. Pictured here at George Ray's track. Thanks to Judy and Bobby Austin for the pic.

Sydney, Australia's Warren Goodall. Originally powered by an injected 440 Mopar it had a blown 392 Hemi when this photo was taken. Track is Champion Dragway in New Zealand.

Saw this one in the swap meet area at the nostalgia drags at Milan last September. Looks as if the photo may have been from that event judging by the background.

Although the photo looks period (black plate, drilled beam axle, primer etc) this is a recent shot of the HAMB's own Kiwi Kev in Nasty Habit and it looks as if it is from Barona.
