As someone else noted, there were several efforts to remotely drive the blower with a small auxiliary engine...this Willys was another example, don't have pictures of the actual setup but the engine and the blower were in the "trunk" with along plenum leading to the front-mounted engine...interesting idea but lots of problems (for one, the blower speed did not match the engine speed if it was driven by another power source)...these guys usually ran Colton but here it is on the way to San Fernando

Jere Wilson from Denver in his then-blown Olds fueler...a driver of the "no-lift" school...after he switched to a Chrysler, this Olds went into his '36 Ford street car.....

There have been a lot of pictures of this early but very progressive dragster...around '55...but I thought we ought to give credit to the guy, so I found this blurry photo from Drag News 1955 that finally identifies the owner/driver...according to the caption, he got drafted (remember that!!).This was a very modern car for the time, note the blower setup, the tube frame, the slingshot driver position...it ran high 140s....and this was from Iowa, far away from the then-hotbed of drag racing, so this guy should get a lot of credit for what he did...

Remember AHRA...was this early Coleman Brothers??

San Fernando, before opening day...apparently some Hollywood studio wanted to make a hot rod movie with some drag racing in it, and they shot it at the still-to-be-opened San Fernando drag strip...notice that there are really no pits or snack bar yet...it had its days, almost no trace today.

The Charger, Woody Gilmore's house car, with Herbert and Donovan sponsorship...Paul Sutherland drove. Roger "Riceman" Lee has recreated this car, along with the M&R car...

Lefty...ran this car on both gas and fuel...I never forget standing behind Chet Herbert's pushcar after Lefty lost a race after having run this car well beyond its competitiveness..."damn it, I told him to build a new car, that's the last you'll see of it!!" Lefty apparently cut it up and used some of the parts for his new single engine blown chev fueler

Rodney Singer in the Singer & Miller gas car, won the '59 NHRA Nationals, blown Lincoln build by Karol Miller, I think this was the first Texas car to win the NHRA Nationals top eliminator...not the last!
