That's a 31 slant windshield Model A. Pretty rare car. Bet that pissed of some restorers.

 

Pretty sure thats the first Ivo Buick car. He gave it to Prudhome who put the Chrysler in it and did the white paint.

 

Gotta love that Poncho power!!

 

Thats Nor-Cal top fuel racer Jim Davis making a pass in what was to be his last FED at the 71 Smokers meet. He broke his arm, but returned with a RED later.

Ivo and Jim Nelson at Old San Gabe (the first one). Ivo won. I was there!!! Look how close the crowd is. Now that was a casual operation.

 

Again, a camera man with his head up his ass.

 

That car was beyond sanitary.

 

John Wenderski. Wasn't he killed in that car? I remember when he brought it out to San Gabe on it's maiden voyage. He went 7.99 only a week or so after Ivo did it the first time. Zuschel horsepower.God what a beautiful car.

 

I love Topolinos too, but that one ain't doin' it for me.

 

He died at the strip in Ramona, down by San Diego in that car...

Twin powered hemi a bit much for the right rear!!!! First lesson at any race track,Never turn your back on a race car. You could get smased by the tire instead of getting that killer picture you might be the killer picture>>>>.

 

That was an incredible little roadster. The next year the manifolding on the front mounted blower exploded right in front of us at about the 1000 foot mark. Blew the hood nearly into the stands.

It does for me! Saw Linda the other night at the NHRA Museum cruise night. Gravity has taken it's toll, but she still has a great personality.

 

Thanks Femadman for posting this. This is one of my all time favorite pictures. I still have that issue of drag racing with the match race article this picture was in. To date there has been no equal to this article for early funny cars.

 

This was another beautiful Willys. Too bad Bones rolled it into a ball so soon.

 

See the guy in the background on the pole? Sometimes you'd see 4 or five up on the poles "doing repairs" during the winternatz.

 

Love the square roll bar on the rpu 6" below the guys head.

 

Tires still smoking and the blower is 3 feet off the motor! The power of nitro.

 

Too bad this lady is blocking the cool truck in the background

 

Too bad we can't get ahold of a time machine...
