  7. The Boogie Scott pic is Pomona. You can tell by the tall cypress trees in the background.

McMullen was a street racer of the first order. The year he was in the Road Runners he always tried to talk one of the members into a race after the club meeting. Those of us who had been in the club for a while knew the Whittier cops were never far away waiting for one of us hooligans to give an "exhibition of speed". About the 3rd meeting Tom attended, he got pissed when no one would race him. He left the parking lot in a cloud of tire smoke. Sure enough, 3 blocks down, Whittier's finest had him on the side of the road. When we drove by, you could see his mouth going a 100 miles an hour trying to talk his way out of a ticket. Tom was a character to be sure!

Yeah, The track manager Jim Rockstad, met me on the return road once, and told me to load it. He thought I was going to "mow down" the Christmas Tree, and informed me that they cost $1000.00. The starter, Roger Stevenson and I became good friends, however the ambulance driver kept a keen eye out when I pulled to the line !

I have a little story about my engine customer & Jim Stevens in 1970'

Curt Hamilton built a very nice roadster pick up to run the same class, I built a mild injected 350 for it and since he was a new racer we could hop her up a bit later when he wanted more power

And since it was all fabbed up I was going to finish it and show the new to racing owner what to do at the drags and how run his new car

So we met one sat nite at Irwindale so Bob could see one of these fast cars in action, well Jim was in the left lane and we stood about 20 ft back on the drivers side

The light came down he put the petal down side stepped the clutch and it lifted the left front a bit , while he was going through the gears

Bob looked over at me and said ' Fuc- that ' and that was it as he wanted no part of that stuff, sold the car and kept the engine in his carport till he passed about 2 yrs ago

He had never been to the drags and did not know what to expect, some want to go fast and some don't and it sure was a surprise to me plus I was looking forward to building up a neat racer too
