Might have...there was almost no standard for flag starts, some starters had just one flag, partly back when there were no foul starts...if you jumped, you got a rematch, later the starter had one green and one red flag, like this guy in the picture, though I can't tell what color he is waving.....later San Gabriel and Lions had a flag/button start system where the starter put the end of the flag on a button, and if you left before he lifted the flag, a red light came on....

  14. Wow! Check that - I have the bumper off PRONTO on my car :) That's the first clear picture of the car I have seen. Found it at a swap meet north of Atlanta a few years back.

Nope! Not a Mopar as the distributor is at the wrong end and the ports point down rather than out. Looks more like a Pontiac to me.

Roo, could be, but those valve covers look more Mopar than Pontiac to me, though Pontiacs did have a breather at the front of the valve cover like this one.(taped over)....I keep looking but not sure where the distributor is.

Before we found a way to sneak in we used to sit at the end of the track on the railroad tracks. Had to lookout for trains but that was part of the excitement (I guess) Here's a picture of a Valiant wagon named Mr Violent

Not sure if I posted this a while back. The "Snake", after a match race they used to push the cars into the spectator side so the fans could look at them. Back in the mid sixties you had to be 18 to get in the pits in New Jersey.

The valve covers looked a little wrong to me but Google is your friend and I found some Pontiac engine pix the were close to matching in that department. The ports are definitely not big block Mopar as they come just about straight out (like a small block Chevy). And if you follow the plug leads they go to the rear.

    Ok
Ok, I see it now..... valve covers still look wrong but the distributor at the back makes it a Pontiac: Mopar distributor was at the front of the intake...thanks for the correction!

Double image of Davis & Ingram...car has apparently been found, any restoration updates?

Bob Culbertson near lane, racing Hugh Tucker...given that Bob was running a flathead, likely that Tucker's blown Olds won

Same car as above, can't see for sure but it looks like it is running a McCulloch blower

Koulan and Brown, blown Olds fueler, looks like San Luis Obispo. The A sedan next to it is the blown Olds gasser run by Roach & Torgerson, Santa Barbara area.

Never seen this one from the Petersen archives...anyone know anything more?

  30. I love steel bodied Fiats. Davis & Ingram ran the polished aluminum stock grill. This body was like it came off a fine restoration. Even ran the stock spare tire cover.
