Tommyd: Greg Shelton(king of American mag wheel hustlers) '33 Willys, I believe. That's the 1st "as found" shot I've ever seen of it. Too cool!!

Ivo's little red roadster was unbeaten, it even won some top eliminator titles back in it's day. The competition bitched and moaned so much about it being a show rod and Ivo having so much money, that he built this car as a response. He transferred the drive train over to this roached out hulk and still was unbeaten. I think it only lasted one week and the red roadster was back.

You can read the story about this Willys over on the 1933-36 Willys Picture thread. Gordie Rivera has a speed shop in Yuma, AZ not too far from the guy who owned this one. Ford sent him the engine for helping their racing team. Jim Pankratz (RIP) bought it during his partnership with Don Waldron. I saw it in his hangar, but never saw these pics. Thanks.

This looks like Don P. after he bought Ivo's single engine Buick. Painted it white. I thought it looked good. We were set to race him in this car at the 'beach' one Sat. night when the curfew kicked in. So much for my five minutes of fame. Of course at that time no one knew him or me. Anyone know what track this is in this photo?

Thehazguy- The editor must not have caught the mix up of Willys years for the captions. Great pix!

Not only is it not a 33 Willys, it also is not Virgil Cates so I think that the caption may have been for an adjacent photo and not the one of the H & V car.
