Yes - Chase Knight clued us in on this project a while back. Joe Magin is restoring the car in Florida, he was originally from Rockford and in the Stage, Pieri, Trisch time frame. Among other things called Paul to get the right paint color.

I'm just over the Illinois border, and got to meet Mr. Stage at a car show...he is friends with a coworker of mine. The only time I've seen the car was footage of it red lighting in an eliminator vs Ohio George.

This car is one of my favorites from the late 60's.
    Really dig this shot.

Interesting history of drag racing in El Paso...will be there in a couple of weeks...

Don't have an id on this coupe

Bob Sullivan was one of the early fuel dragster guys to put his blown fuel motor in a stock-bodied car...this one was really well engineered for the time, including a tube front axle....direct drive...fans really loved these early funny cars...

Ok, these guys didn't smoke the tires through the lights, but they were a big part of drag racing, and they worked hard for their championship...

    Jerry-Saar.jpg
Only caption is "Jerry Saar"..... anyone?...zoomie headers but a TE-440-style roll bar

    Mother-In-Law 1.jpg
Bowers & Paris at speed at Bakersfield (this was the only drag racing car that my wife liked, because of the color, I realized that she was not cut out for the sport)....

Nelson & Martin, after the Latham Blower got replaced with the Potvin system...looks like Santa Ana

No ID, only info is "Photo by Steve Gibbs," who was one of the most honest racer-friendly drag race operators around...he and Jim Tice made San Gabriel a fun place to race...

    SOUR-SISTERS-AT-FONTANA-DRAG-STRIP-EARLY-1960S.jpg
Caption is "Sour Sisters," which would be Safford, Gaide, and Ratican, far side, think they are racing Billy Scott in the Scotties Muffler Chevy car, Fontana....(I loved the place but man was it dark on the big end, like driving into a tunnel, and sometimes slick from the sand that blew in from the grape fields....nothing but houses there now)

    straw-hat-crash-helmet.jpg
First Lady of drag racing, Peggy Hart in C.J.'s Willys gasser, Cad powered...she died too soon from cancer..

    sucp_0110_08_z+nhra_championship_drag_racing+electronic_starts.jpg
No clue...but obviously ABC was there...anyone??

Another Steve Gibbs photo...any ID? Dean? and Dean did know:
Eddie Thompson's C/Gas Willys. Eddie ran a 4 speed, and used to stand this '40 Willys on its tail regularly. Eddie is Junior Thompson's brother....thanks!

Paint says it all....ok, not famous, but for the owner, this was a big part of his life....and a part of drag racing history...these were the cars you built in your garage...and if they were somewhat crude by today's standards, they were the heart of drag racing then.....
