This was at Mobile Dragway last night. It was built in 56 by Al Howard in California and has a steel body with Olds rear end. The car was white with 34C/A on the side then purple with Sweet Wine 2 on the side owned by Frank Richards, Olds powered and was raced around Bakersfield. I got this info from the current owner who may come to test and tune at Gulfport Dragway with Clyde and I on the 1st of August. Sorry about the bad picture.

A few from Beech Bend/NHRR - one of the best car events around IMO.

Agreed. There is no reason for every dragstrip to extend itself (watch the ticket prices soar if they do!). The simple answer is to slow the nitro cars down. I find TF and FC no more exciting now than I did in the 70's or 80's-- in fact, I find them less interesting due to corporate overtaking of the sport. Racing billboards-- that's what both NHRA and NASCAR have become, and I'm just not that into it. Slow them down, make them look more like "real" cars, and put some butts in the seats. I don't want anymore little kids coming home from a major NHRA event saying, "Yeah, so-and-so died!" That will be the death of our sport.

Let's stick to pictures and stories about drag racing. The 1320 vs.1000 feet thing is neither productive NOR is it interesting. It's been beat to death elsewhere.

    Bump.

Guess nobody ever heard of Mike Duffy's Racing Service? To a local, he was a big hero. Probably someone like that in every town.

Are you sure about that car being painted black? I know there was a black one there with City of Industry signage, but I have pictures of the red one. I took the pictures of the car at the NHRA Museum last year.

Yes, thanks for the post of the first one! This is the look I went for. Have a pic of that roadster in HOT ROD Magazine, but it is way too small. Sweeet!

    Kerry,
Where did you run onto these 1965 photos of my car you posted on p 237? They were all taken by my partner. Terry Cunningham's wife in 1965.
This is the first time I have been on this site and posted.
Sorry these 1st photos are not "in motion". I have others that are.
I have lotsa photos of drag cars from 1957-1966 if y'all are intersted. I STOPPED drag racin' in 1966!
    I'll be 70 in 2 months.
I am almost finished re-doing my 1965 car as a cackle car. I cackled it on 80% (unfinished) for the first time a month ago at Bowling Green, 2008 NHHR.
My car was "The World's Quickest Chevrolet" in 1965.

    Hi Mazooma1:
I am DEFINITELY NOT a Legend!! Just an old drag racer who did real good in 1965 with a 383 small block Chevy AA/FD.
Here's a few photos "in motion" of our car, 1965.

    Hi Belair,
    It was a 327 (.030 over - 4.030 bore) stroked to 3 3/4 = 383. 9 cu in less than the 389 Hemis we ran against.
    Todays 383's are 400 cranks (3.80 stroke x 4.000 bore) = 383.

    Hi RossPreen,
Last year, I sold an original '62 Corvette to a guy in Australia who had it shipped from Louisiana to Australia. He LOVES it!
Photo of me and my '62 'Vette winning 1963 NHRA Louisiana State Drag Championship (A/SP), attached.

    Ok Mazooma1, go the Volkswagens!!:)

Glenn, I'm glad you are shareing the cars around.

  22. I knew both of Sam's cars are in the museum, and one is black. When Sam owned them they were both a maroonish red. Must his first Kurtis that is black now. Thanks for the correction. Damn CRS is a bitch.

  23. Looks like a science project that went horribly wrong. It does have a neat 4 bar front end, but I haven't figured out how he steers it.

Hey Dean, here in Australia we call it CRAFT, "can't remember a #*&!% thing".:(

  25. Anything is possible. I know Lufkin or Parriot never did anything but straight line racing with their Kurtis cars. I was not aware of a third 500S-2, but if you have a pic, there must have been. Would love to see the pic if you can find it.

    My apologies.

  27. Oh yes, we do too. For some reason I guess I typed the polite version. What was I thinking? Lost my head there for a minute. Won't happen again!:D

  28. I was always in awe of this car. But damn! Ol' Eddie sure needed help with those flames!!
